FEARS GROW FOR BRITON AS US HOSTAGE SHOT DEAD
By Mark Ellis

FEARS were growing for Iraq hostage Norman Kember yesterday after militants released a video claiming to show the execution of an American.

The Islamic Army of Iraq, who posted the film on a militant website, said it shows the death of US contractor Ronald Schulz.

In the video, the executed man is seen being shot as he kneels in an open, empty area of dirt.

His back is to the camera, his hands are tied behind him and he has a blindfold on.

He is also in an Arab headdress, making identification impossible The man topples over after the first shot and is then shot repeatedly. The video also shows Schulz's identity card. Nothing has been heard from the group holding British peace activist Mr Kember, 74, since a deadline passed more than a week ago.

Some countries have managed to get their hostages back. I guess it's because they enter into some sort of talks with the captors. But, not for U.S. or British captives. I don't suppose it would make any sense to consider releasing some of these prisoners. We've released thousands, held for years in some cases, without charges. It must be just one of the drawbacks to living in one of these 'great' nations.
