Dear Republicans,
I'm a liberal. I am not a Christian. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I'm an atheist, except I really don't care enough to even call myself that. If anything, I'm a staunch apatheist. I'm just really in no way interested in the existence of God, gods, goddesses, faeries or 'vibes'. I just try to be kind to my fellow man, help those less fortunate, not be judgemental. (Wait, I've heard that somewhere before...)

That said, I similarly could not possibly give the lesser of two shits what holiday you celebrate or why. You are the ones perpetuating this manufactured "War on Christmas" so you can get all hot and bothered about *yet again* being persecuted by the crazy liberal secularists. My child goes to public school, where not only did they sing your standard Christmas carols, but (*GASP*!!) their classroom was decorated with red and green! :o The teacher even mentioned that it was Jesus' birthday! :o And y'know what? Who cares? Sure, I'd prefer it not be said, but in all honesty it's MY job to educate my child in whatever faith I so choose, or don't. Just as the history they teach in public schools is highly flawed...and it's MY job to see that my kids learn the history I believe. Same with values, morals, etc. Oh yes, contrary to what you've been told, liberals have those as well. Just because they aren't the same as yours doesn't mean they don't exist. ;)

Do tell me one thing though, as I'm a little lost on this: You're the party of personal responsibility, all big on the moral fiber and whatnot. How is it you feel you're doing such a shit job at passing these things to your kids that you must insist on having it in the schools? Are your mega-churches and sin-free 'teaching by example' somehow falling short? I'd think you'd be GLAD to not have some crazy liberal humanist teacher filling your wee angels' heads with what is surely slanted and false information about your blessed Christian teachings. I dunno, just something I think about, being a latte-sippin', Volvo drivin', elitist intellectual liberal. :)

So...yeah. Merry Christmas n' stuff. :hi:

1. This liberal would like to know
how these people who wear their "Christianity" on their sleeves can think that the Budget Bill that was passed-the one that takes from the poor and gives to the rich-is following the teachings of Jesus.

2. Not being a 'Lican myself, I can't really speak for 'em . . .
But I'm going to anyway.

Social conformity makes 'em comfy. Makes 'em think no changes can affect them personally, that they have some control over how human society evolves ('scuse me -- "achieves its design goals"). If their particular ideology is NOT taught, then society might diverge from their fuzzy ideal.

Of course it does anyway, but Faith isn't more of a blunt instrument than a sharp sword, if yah know what I mean.

Fantasyland. Hard to maintain a home there -- the upkeep is tremendous.

3. Hear, hear!
Just replace "not christian" with "christian" and we're in full agreement

4. This Pagan is also in full agreement! Well said!
I've never heard of anyone being arrested for wishing somebody "Merry Christmas." As opposed to being arrested for, say, expressing love for the wrong "type" of person according to the law of the land.

It's a mystery to me why the right-wingers feel compelled to get their knickers in a twist every year at this time (wait, their knickers are always in a twist about something - I don't know why, since they seem to be in charge of everything these days).

5. I'm in complete agreement

if one lives their life as a good and caring person, one wouldn't have to worry about any such thing as God.

on edit: It really bothers me about what those people who pray and scream about god this and god that, must be doing that they have to ask for favoratism (forgiveness, whatever) from their God.
