It was an awakening for me
A few weeks after arriving in country I realized my mission wasn't what I had been led to believe. These people were no threat to me then and If I had left that day, no threat to me tomorrow. That was then this is today. I cry for the Iraqi today as I cry for the Vietnamese then, still.

:toast: to your awakening

The unexamined life is not worth living..
so to examine one's life is in itself something to celebrate.

I'm sorry you got sent there by a ruse, sorry for the pain it all must have cost you, and is costing you today, but I am very glad for all of us that you figured it out. The voices of those who have 'been there' are most valuable.

Veterans against war are my heroes. Thank you for being there, and here.

5. I was too young for Vietnam, but I am fascinated by it and the men
who were there fighting. I read a lot on the subject and cannot imagine what it must have been like to have been there.

Our family has a friend who returned from Vietnam and wanted nothing to do with society at all. He built a cabin deep in the woods and avoided people as much as possible for two years.

I don't think society has any idea the problems that our military men and women will be facing when they return from Iraq -- mentally and physically. They are going to need a lot of help and I am afraid that many of them will not get it.

I like your Vietnam Veterans Against the War sticker. I have a "W -- Footprint of the American Chickenhawk" and "Veterans Against Iraq" on my car. So far, no one has said a word to me about them.

6. Yep, that domino theory was crap back then
like giving democracy to Iraq is now. Did the Iraqis ask to be saved? Their country is trashed. Isn't that what happens in war? Everything gets trashed, minds, bodies and countries. I was sure after Viet Nam that we would not do that again. Those too young to have gone through VN have no idea. Well, they are getting the idea now, I hope.
