4. Oh merh, that reconstruction was to come from ANWR drilling profits
You should've heard Stevens try to sell the drilling thing claiming to use the money to help the south.

It made me sick.

18. Only part of the money was from ANWR profits - it
wasn't clear how much from Senator Landrieu's website. She supported opening ANWR as a source of long-term funds for reconstruction, but none of the funds would have been released until 2008. It still isn't clear to me whether some of the $29 Billion was supposed to come from ANWR or whether that was a promise for future funds.

23. I had the pleasure of watching this classic. Defending his
integrity and good name from those bad mouthing Democratic Senators was great entertainment.

Talking about the those poor folks in New Orleans that had lost everything and he tried to help, but those evil, and he looked at that side of the isle, ones prevented him from being knighted by Lord junior.

6. Hurricane Relief Money was just a ploy
There would have been no money from ANWR to fund the relief effort for many years.

17. What about the LIHEAP money Stevens threatened to exclude?
Without LIHEAP -- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program -- literally millions of impoverished people will freeze to death this winter.

Sadly, the fact no one else has mentioned LIHEAP does not speak very well of the class-consciousness of those celebrating the ANWR exclusion (which I would celebrate too, were I sure it did not come at the cost of the ability of the poor to heat our houses).

Sadly too is the fact I have to raise the question at all. But the ugly truth is that -- ever since Clinton's genocidal "welfare reform" -- the Democrats and the Republicans have been no different in their hatefulness to those of us on the socioeconomic bottom, whether elderly, disabled or chronically poor.

20. I don't think most people knew about LIHEAP - I just found
out this morning - and was sickened to hear that it was tied to the defense bill, ANWR, and Katrina relief.

22. The question was addressed at the press conference the Dems had
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 11:01 PM by karynnj
Senator Kerry answered it - saying that the money for LIHEAP and the Katrina relief was there and would come from the same place the money for tax cuts was coming from - borrowing. He mentioned that both Reed's and his LIHEAP proposals had offsets. LIHEAP was initially Reed, Kerry and (one of the Maine Senator's) bill.

This was in the afternoon - I don't think it was excluded.

That goes to the House. I don't know where LIHEAP was. The only thing I know that was taken out of the defense bill is ANWR.

30. Poor Teddy Stevens
The dude was about to have a stroke today. Gone is his bridge to nowhere. Gone is his best last chance to spill oil all over the north slopes. The bastard got his today and it couldn't have happened to a nicer asshat.

Now we need to hold the line on the Patriot scam...make sure that doesn't get a vote before the recess so it lapses. Then make Investigation as priority one...before any ScAlito hearing are held.

Reid has done a masterful job of late...making the very most of a bad situation. Frist is clueless...but thank goodness...his ineptness has made things a lot easier.
