Oregon Political Profanity in Holiday Lights (PHOTO in Oregon newspaper!)
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 01:33 AM by Radio_Lady
Thanks to everyone for your help and concerns when I began this with discussions on 12/17 and 12/18 and a photo that my husband took. Willamette Week's Thursday 12/22/05 edition hit the streets tonight. Also at their web site on the Internet -- see below.

http://www.wweek.com/editorial/3207/7066/

MURMURS (Editorial Column) Where We Always Fill In The Blanks.
BY WW EDITORIAL STAFF | newsdesk at wweek.com

"F___ W" proclaim the white-and-red holiday lights on the roof of one Beaverton home. Murmurs was shocked to learn from the proud homeowner that the cipher had nothing do to with the movie Free Willy. "It's for five years of hell," says lawyer Bruce McLaughlin, who has (to the chagrin of at least one neighbor) also emblazoned his home with anti-war and anti-Bush statements in previous years. McLaughlin didn't want his address revealed, saying vandals had in the past snipped his wires and tossed a glowing green "radioactive" barrels over a neighbor's hedge. So why "Fuck Dubya" this holiday season? Says McLaughlin: "It's just a guttural, base feeling about this president."

did not want to be hassled about the roof.

I will PM the information to you if you wish.

11. Where are you now, Suich? We moved here from Boston in 1998.
My husband hated the snow. My daughter and her husband moved here with Intel in 1995. We followed three years later. Now we have a couple of grandkids here.

Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 01:55 AM by Radio_Lady
-- then I wrote a press release Sunday night 12/18/05 and emailed it to W.W. There must be other alternative newspaper outlets that might like to see this, but I don't have the time to start a "publicity firestorm" with this photo. Obviously, it's a time-limited photo. Also, many TV stations won't touch this photo with a ten-foot pole. (I don't know -- would the FCC fine a station that showed this?) National cable TV shows that might use it are on hiatus, repeats, vacationing, or hit by the New York City transit strike. (Boy, did I get a lot of auto-replies from the people with whom I communicate in NYC yesterday and today.)

It's still fun to get something published. This is one of the first pictures my husband took with his new Sony digital camera!

13. Been doing this stuff for years, tuvor, for a variety of causes.
I love persuasive pursuits -- anything that spreads the word! My Daddy was a fabulous verbal and written communicator, I guess I inherited that from him. Here I am with my family circa 1945: (Don't you just love those painted palm trees?)

30. Remembering Mom: I think it was a bright coral, or perhaps red!
Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 06:43 PM by Radio_Lady
Two colors us brunettes really love!

I miss my mother a lot. We weren't very close because of the 3,000 miles distance between us. She was very depressed after my father died in 1988, and only lasted until 1991 (she was 71 at the time of death).

Her younger sister is my great pal now. We took her to Hawaii last October and it was a lot of fun. My aunt is 81 years old, and she was the rebellious person in the family! We shared a lot of memories, and it's good that I now live in Oregon -- she's in California and getting together has been much easier.

Speaking of Hawaii, my grandmother lives there in her own home, and still swims in her pool every day at age 94!!!

33. I've heard that many Hawaiians live to advanced ages --
The ones that don't eat too much pork and poi!

I'll attribute it to the swimming, which I try to do almost every day.

Do you know I went to U.C.L.A. in 1959-60? I spent some good times around where you live listening to "KFWB Radio, Channel 98" in LA. I can stil sing their silly jingle!!! I have no idea how old you are, but if you remember that Top 40s station, you may be as old as I am.

Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 02:28 AM by Radio_Lady
I moved back to Miami in 1960, and graduated with a B.A. (cum laude) in Television, Radio and Film from the University of Miami in February 1962. But I should have graduated in 1960. I was a few years late because I "stopped out" for a brief marriage. I'll be 67 next May 2006.

Thanks again for helping me make a dinner! I am so woeful in the kitchen. Luckily, my husband will eat anything and never complains. Now that we're retired, and he has to depend on me for food (!), he's taken over much of the food shopping and we're sharing the meal preparation. Good deal!

Hey, look at the time! My bad....

in 2000. We had a great time -- and still get up there frequently!

Did you know that Seattle has LESS trees and green spaces than Portland, Oregon? Someone wrote an article about it in the media during the time we've lived here. Moved here from Boston, Massachusetts, which is proud of its Emerald Necklace, a string of greenways through the downtown area.

http://www.emeraldnecklace.org/

Seattle and Portland BOTH made this list! In peace, Radio Lady.

After more than fifty years on the East Coast, in New York, Florida and Boston, I was kind of homesick for the first few months. But after that, I got right in the swing of things, and like you, I cannot imagine going back East.

We're off to Salt Lake City for the holidays.

"Bye-bye for a while, and keep a smile." (That's what my co-host -- on the kids show I did -- used to say.
