Do you guys really think Bush went rogue?
Remember, he can't form a coherent sentence when he is forced to ad lib. What he said on Saturday was written by his communications staff and was dutifully read off the teleprompter by the chimperor. Now, I know that the chimp is as dumb as a hammer and incurious to boot but there were many people involved in writing that little "fuck you" speech and they are not likely so ignorant of the consequences.

Somebody or somebodies did this for a reason. I wonder what the reason is?

1. To me, it appears that the regime has just become so arrogant that they
believe they are above reproach and no one can stop them now.
They feel they now own the office and no one can take it away.

5. Hubris.
That is what you're defining - has happened all through history when the powerful become so arrogant they believe they are untouchable. They destruct by their own hand.

11. Hoisted On Their Own Petard
Methinks this entire 5 year march into Fascism will turn out to be a Pyrrhic victory for the Reich Wing. If all comes out with Fitz and Spygate the RW will never recover as a party. BAAAHHHHAAAWWWWAAA! BRING IT ON MOTHERFUCKERS WE ARE TAKING YOU DOWN!

19. What's a petard?
And how does someone get hoisted by it? (Sorry--I'm just being a smartass). I happen to agree with you that the resulting scandals of this administration, when brought to light, will doom the Republican party as we know it for at least a generation.

2. Setting the stage for their coup
Next there will be a "reason" to suspend the 2006 elections, any dissent will then result in the imposition of martial law. Mark my words.

3. I believe you. They can't afford to lose their stranglehold on the
government. They have too much to hide. Way more to lose. Maybe even a few could do time in a penal institution somewhere.

4. I don't think so
I think the illusion of Democracy serves this fascist regime well. It's a sleight of hand or shell game to them.

6. I think what you are seeing is a facade
Chimp doesn't know or care about history, but that doesn't mean his handlers don't. I get the same feeling I did just before Nixon fell-back then it was like Nixon was invincible, and that anything done would go away, and he'd remain in power. And then came the court decision from the Supremes. Congress may roll over and play dead, but the courts are more serious about their power and maintaining it.

7. So
as far as the speech, do you think somebody (speechwriter or someone else) is trying to out the Chimp? Trying to let the people outside the glass bubble see what's going on?

8. Really maybe it was the handlers joking, saying watch the monkey read
ANYTHING we put in front of him. Let's have him read an impeachable offense. Cool, see if he will really do it. Then, they are like, damn, the idiot actually read THAT too. Now, what do we need him to say next?

9. Kinda reminds me of a Jane's Addiciton song...
"I was standing in the shower thinking.
About what makes a man, an outlaw or a leader.
I'm thinking about power.
The ways a man could use it, or be destroyed by it."

I think that he's doing exactly what they appointed him to do. The neo-cons who pull the strings are quite happy with him.

they grab as much as they can and never retreat.

The only way to beat them is to take their power away... likely by force.
Just like you'd do with a schoolyard bully.. except these bullies have nukes.

given his history, he did not go rogue, he is simply extending the family syndicate

15. What I meant by that phrase
was that he didn't just get up to that podium and start talking extemporaneously. He's incapable of that. Therefore the person or people who wrote his "Fuck you America" speech are the ones who actually revealed his actions. He just read off the teleprompter. I'm just wondering what the underlying motivation for the others was. Everyone seems to be looking at why Bush got up and admitted before God and man that he committed high crimes and misdemeanors. All he really did was read off of a teleprompter with probably next to no comprehension (he's got swiss cheese brain or to be more technical organic brain syndrome). Who outed him and why?

16. Everything
Everything that has come out of this administration so far has been a lie. It's come to the point that when I hear Georgie grunt, I automatically assume that the OPPOSITE of what he is saying is true. Perhaps the fact that he did NOT lie this time was meant as a curveball ;)

18. Might be Harriet Miers, she got burned by Bushco.
He can't deliver for the neocons, and is dispensable.
The powers that are, are failing miserably. He can get up there
and say their talking points, but they are not working. For Gonzales to come out and say after
Jan 1 06, we will no longer be safe, without Patriot Act, is just
assine. Political clout is gone. If Dems, can stay the course, we will win.

23. "went" rogue? He has always been one
Is the premise that Shrub disclosed himself as a lawbreaker in the one speech? And post #14 says that "rogue" implies that the subject was "above board" at one point, meaning that he degenerated into BECOMING a rogue.

The dictionary definition doesn't contain the connotation of BECOMING roguish: being a rogue is a condition of being, static and immutable::

*******QUOTE*******

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/rogue

Etymology: origin unknown
1 : VAGRANT, TRAMP
2 : a dishonest or worthless person : SCOUNDREL
3 : a mischievous person : SCAMP
4 : a horse inclined to shirk or misbehave
5 : an individual exhibiting a chance and usually inferior biological variation

********UNQUOTE*******

I submit that he was ALWAYS a rogue---with his ugly and arrogant character, his belief in his and his class' being exempt from the laws, his "joking" references to the advantages of dictatorship, his RULING from Day 1 AS IF he had a mandate----all of it, all of him, always.

24. I used rogue
to mean he went solo, went against his administrations party line without consulting others like he does when he occasionally shoots his mouth off without a script.

I'm saying with the first post that this wasn't an imprompto thing that he went off script with. He was handed a script. I want to know who and why.

25. He's incapable of going rogue.
At least when it involves public speaking. I too have been pondering the reasoning behind this "F*ck You America" speech. The PNAC Neocons are anything but stupid - vile, despicable, pure evil, but not stupid. Is it pure hubris? Are they daring us to try and stop them? Or maybe they are betting that the whole thing will blow over and the speech and the illegal spying will be just another foothold toward the publics gradual acceptance of a dictatorship? I guess only time will tell.
