8. One gets the feeling...
That the sargeant at arms has a special tranquilizer gun at his disposal, in case Mrs. Sensenbrenner's little boy gets himself just a tad too wound up. Just in case.

I cannot understand how a state full of such wonderful folks can send that knucklehead to represent them in Washington.

The Senate got the 6 month extension for Patriot Act with future hearings. The House let it all pass. I might disagree.

15. Remember, Stevens said there were three things added after the fact
ANWR, Katrina Relief, and Bird Flu language. Obey is objecting to the Bird Flu language which gives them absolutely NO accountability if they screw up and say ... give us tainted vaccine like they would have done LAST year if the vaccine maker hadn't blown his own whistle.

Seems Frist was into the rules violation up to his neck too.

29. But by the sounds of it, it was part of the 40 pages that Frist was
shoving down their throats? Obey made it sound like they wanted it in when it went over, even if the conference had never seen it or agreed to it.

Isn't that the basis of the rule that they broke? They shoved it in after even the House had signed off on it. Am I mistaken? (it could very easily happen these days too. They speak with forked tongues most times!)

But two girls in Vietnam died of the bird flu, despite being given Tamiflu and other aggressive treatments.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/12/22/MNGOHGBLV51.DTL&type=health

Two teenagers who died of avian influenza in Vietnam earlier this year developed drug-resistant strains of the virus during treatment with Tamiflu, raising questions about the world's reliance on the pills as the first line of defense against a potential flu pandemic.

56. Yes they were and that is what the House was debating there at
the last hour. Obey was saying how Frist and the Speaker came to twist his arm to add these 40 pages AFTER they had signed off on it. It appears to me that all of that was included in those 40 pages they strong armed into the bill.

44. info re:Fitzpatrick R-PA, and what a disgusting little fuck he is
http://www.citizen.org/trade/cafta/articles.cfm?ID=14044

Ignoring the will of his constituents and the devastating results that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has had on his state, Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) became a deciding “yes” vote for a six-nation NAFTA expansion called the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), which eked through the House of Representatives 217 to 215. Many of Fitzpatrick’s constituents were opposed to both trade agreements, as Pennsylvania has lost nearly a quarter of its manufacturing jobs since NAFTA.

33. Why the change?
so pres would not be forced to call special session next week. Not since 1933. What this does, Senate will be back 1/18. Will force them to deal with conference report. Never take anything up except 1 week before deadline. Accept conference erpot, over 30 civil liberties or vote for extensions that do not contain safeguards.

Fucking lying pricK!!

37. Retribution?
No. I spent part of this year 11 hearings. Full blown debate in House. Negotiating with Senate. The House has done its work on PA and negotiated conf report supported by 44 representatives. We did a good job on report. Filibuster by dems is against even considering cafefully thought out conference report. Proud of my committee.

The choice Senate has is accept conference report with protections or voting to extend the existing law and continue to negotiate. Conf report can't be re-opened because 1 House adopted the report.

S: Private discussion. What I said "I did not want to leave the public more vulnerable because of filibuster. 6-mo extension would have allowed Senat to duck the issue in June. Wrecking Christmas don't want them to wreck Independence Day."

Won't admit who he talked to. Plenty of time. Either go to conf report or series of extension w/o protections.
