71 yrs old, and can't stand to look at him.
Another encounter today... brought on by this:



... among other bumper stickers.

She was 71 yrs old, with silver hair, walking w/a cane. As I got out of my vehicle, she came over, pointed at the sticker & said, not verbatim, but pretty close, "You know, I can't stand to look at him. I can't stand to look at his face. When he comes on the TV, I get so mad, I could punch it. I have to turn it off. I have a sister who voted for him. She thinks, excuse my language, and I shouldn't say this because I'm a Christian, that he shits ice cream. She goes to church every day, yet she supports these hooligans, she defends everything they do. What's Christian about that? I won't even talk to her anymore. A friend at church said she wished she had a sister... I told her she could have mine. My brother hasn't talked to her for five years. If my father were still alive, he'd have some choice words to say to her and to that hooligan in the White House, and all those hooligans in Congress. I want them all out before I die. I'll be out campaigning for the Democratic presidential candidate, arthritis and all, even if I'm in a wheelchair by then. And I'll be waving my signs over by the freeway, too. By God, we're gonna get them out."

This lovely woman made my day... "By God, we're gonna get them out."

My dear paternal grandmother used to do that in her later years when she got really riled up about something, and I loved her dearly for it. You really had to be careful not to stand too close to her, though, or you might get whacked by mistake.

10. I had an exchange about gas prices w/a distant cousin a few months ago.
She sent me one of those email 'petitions' to bush to lower gas prices... you know, the ones where you add your name & forward it on. The exchange went back & forth, and ended like this...

    Individual states have gas taxes... these taxes are not rising during the price gouging that is now occurring under your pResident's Administration, and individual states have no control over what your pResident's oil industry buddies are doing. Your pResident's oil industry buddies are responsible for this price gouging, not state governments, and not gas station owners.

    It must be nice to be unconcerned w/the oil industry's price gouging as long as you're not inconvenienced w/waiting in line. It's not so nice for those who have to choose between filling their tanks and buying such things as food, medicine, clothes for their children, paying utility bills and other housing costs. Wonder how many people who have oil furnaces will freeze to death this winter as a result of not being able to heat their homes... while your pResident's billionaire oil exec buddies (some of his 'haves & have mores'... who have even more as a result of your pResident's tax cuts for the rich) laugh all the way to the bank?

    This sadistic, callous & cruel disregard shown by your pResident's Administration for 'the least of these My brethren' is not something that could or would happen under any president, and most certainly not President Carter. Does your pResident's cruelty make you proud?

Would they have had the means to respond any differently? What about the more than 100,000 troops in Iraq who could be helping in the effort had they not been deployed to fight a war based on lies? What about all of the equipment sent to Iraq to fight your pResident's illegal war based on lies... equipment that is unavailable in this crisis? What about the hundreds of billions of dollars that has been diverted to pay for your pResident's war based on lies, much of which has gone directly to your vice-pResident's company - Halliburton... money that should have been spent on Homeland Security & FEMA. This current response is an indication of your pResident's failure to fulfill his duty to the country.

16. My spouse just turned 71 yesterday.
He's in mighty good shape for the shape he's in, but he shares this silver-haired lady's take on the Bushco. Since my beloved intends to live to 115 (he swears!) he'll probably outlast Bushco but doubtless not the long-lasting effects of this evil administration, which our grandchildren will be paying for all of their lives and their children's (unless we can talk them out of the procreation notion!). As the other Fantastic Seventy-one-year-old in this story affirmed, by God we're gonna get them out.

As a Christian (my spouse's a lapsed Catholic) I can only hope and pray she's right. I'll be 71 in a scant 3-1/2 years and we must get it done by them. By God, we must get them out!!

My mom is 75 years old and never voted in her life. She registered in 2004 just so she could vote for Kerry. She said she doesn't even recognize her country anymore.

the list of seniors who hate the chimp. They can't understand how any elderly person living on SS and Medicare could ever vote for a repuke. They are church-going Catholics, too, and always tell the people standing outside church with RW voter "guides" at election time to get lost.

They're not church-going, but tried to get us to go when we were kids. They were always Democrats, but they HATE shrub - my mom is signing petitions, sending emails to her friends, and they both voted this past year - prior to that, voting wasn't a huge priority for them, but it's kind of funny to see my mom signing petitions and stuff like that. Wonder how many seniors are on the list of domestic terrorists....

I love it! I'm adopting that verbage and going to use it alot. Finally a snappy come back that has legs, so to speak.

My mom is 81 and is an activist. Her articles are printed in the opinion page of our paper at least once a month, and she's been writing and submitting them since the 2000 election. She also is computer savvy and prints out political posters and tapes them to her front door, where everyone from the postman to neighbors have to read them when they ring her bell (a very conservative city in Tx). She's a definitely "in your face" fiesty 81 year old gal.

57. My mom died at age 94 in 2001,
just a few weeks before 9/11. She called the sorry fool "stupid asshole." She'd watch C-SPAN and nightly news, and I could always tell when "stupid asshole" was on the TV. She had choice words to describe some of the other neocons, too.

I think the older many of us we get, the more we feel free to speak our minds. We start to care less what other's think of us and just start telling it like it is. That's why a few old folks can get pretty nasty - they just don't care what anyone thinks any more and their real selves come out.
