Thank You David Allen for helping to push Diebold out of NC
Excerpts from an email I received

Dear Activist:

We received news today that Diebold's new CEO has refused to sign a statement that their source code on the new machines matches the source code they are required to put in an escrow account for examination and use by the state. Misrepresenting the truth on this statement is punishable by law as a Class I felony.

Our State Board of Elections has received a letter stating that Diebold will not be selling their machines in NC.

We can thank David Allen for inserting this requirement in S223. He was part of the joint select committee which wrote the bill.

If you would like to thank him yourself, you can write him at david@blackboxvoting.com.

********

Well done, David.

Diebold pulls out of contract competition

by Mark Binker
Staff Writer

RALEIGH — Voting machine maker Diebold has told the State Board of Elections that it will not sell its equipment in North Carolina, at least for the time being.

The move leaves one company, ES&S of Omaha, Neb., eligible to sell voting equipment in the state with tight deadlines looming in advance of primary elections scheduled for May.

Election officials said they will have to wait until next week to figure out how severe the impact of Diebold’s withdrawal will be on the state’s ability to conduct elections. But under the state’s current timetable, counties have until Jan. 20 to sign a contract to buy new voting machines.

“There’s good and bad things about both (Diebold and ES&S), and I’m not sure which of the two systems we would have recommended,” said Guilford County Elections Director George Gilbert. Instead of choosing which system to use, counties are now forced to buy systems built by ES&S if they want to have a legal election.

This is the latest twist in a long-running saga that has its roots in voting machine glitches in the 2004 election. Foremost among those was a Carteret County voting machine that lost more than 4,400 votes.

13. Many thanks to David! And to all: Stay vigilant! These people and their
brethren at ES&S have near bottomless resources to screw our democracy over, once and for all.

For instance, anyone in officialdom who opposes them is in danger of getting the "Kevin Shelley treatment." Watch the backs of your allies--the heroes and patriots with careers at risk who are standing up for our right to vote!

Throw Diebold and ES&S election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' NOW!

Please thank Joyce McCloy who was the one who persauded me to get back in the game after I was prepared to give up.

Without asking for a single dime, she has fought against BBV in North Carolina for over two years like a tiger defnding her cub.
