Chris 'Tweety' Matthews named Misinformer Of The Year!!
Beating out luminaries such as Bill O'Lielly, AnnThrax Coulter, Sean InSanity and Rush 'OxyMoron' Limbaugh...

Congratulations Chris!!

Chris Matthews: 2005's Misinformer of the Year

Since our launch in May 2004, Media Matters for America has monitored, analyzed, and corrected conservative misinformation in the media, wherever and whenever we find it. As you may remember, last year our staff conducted an extensive review of all the misinformation we identified and corrected in the early days in order to name the first annual "Misinformer of the Year." We singled out one particularly egregious purveyor of falsehoods and awarded Bill O'Reilly the dubious title. O'Reilly graciously accepted the award on Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor.

This year, of all the news anchors, columnists, pundits, and reporters whose work we've critiqued and corrected, one man stands alone as a clear successor to the O'Reilly throne. We are pleased to announce broadcast journalist, former newspaper bureau chief, former presidential speechwriter, and best-selling author Chris Matthews has earned the title of 2005's "Misinformer of the Year." At times, it has even been difficult to tell the difference between 2005's Misinformer of the Year and his predecessor.

For your reading pleasure, we've compiled some highlights of Matthews's most egregious false and misleading claims, as well as his glowing and gushing praise for President Bush.

Without further ado:

3. Chris Matthews has no credibility left
and besides that, he's extremely rude. I can't stand to watch him as he typifies a growing trend I see in this country for people to constantly interrupt and cut-off a speaker before they can make their point.

13. The Rove propaganda machine has interchangeable parts...
Either of the 'pieces' fit at either at either or...CNN, MSNBC, ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, Clear Channel, the NYT, SOS! KKKarl and the Pentagon just shuffles the deck of liars every once in a while and redeals them to the next channel. I put more faith in Popeye, or Santa Clause, than I do any of those anti-American wimps.

16. Thank you!
And, I hope you considered the NYT as a serious runner up!

Btw, of the top five papers, only the NYT showed a slight increase in subscribers according to Jack O'Dwyer's Newsletter / November 16, 2005.

So, not only are they screwing the American public but they're turning a profit from the aforesaid screw ups!

peace,
Beth

Tweety is THE presstitute par excellence! It is easy for rw fanatics to call him part of the "liberal media" and he is constant in his adoration of the *resident.
well done MMFA!!!!!! Big kiss for you!

18. Matthews is worse than Coulter or O'Leilley or Limbaugh because
he is cunning enough to know how to come across as a "real" journalist, while still sucking up to * and knifing the Dems every chance he gets.

Russert is the other one. He deserves the award next year, no matter what he does between now and then, simply based on past performance.

I would change the name of the award, however, to misinformer/hypocrite. Anyone can misinform, but to do it on the scale and consistency that these guys do, and yet still come across to most people as "real" journalist, is quite a feat of hypocrasy, and it takes real talent.

Recommended!

19. It's cocktail circuit punditry masquerading as journalism
Edited on Fri Dec-23-05 07:22 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
Mathews performs self-parody every night at 7:00 pm. He is a good personification of the Tim Russert quote - "Integrity is for paupers." I think Mathews like his Nantucket mansion and knows who butters his toast. I agree with the other poster who said Tim Russert was another very strong contender for this award. Hooray for Media Matters - they do matter themselves. They are smart and they have long memories and very good writers.

I hope that someday in the near future IWT (Independant World Television) will render mockingbird journalists like Mathews more irrelevant than they already are.

21. I disagree with this...Matthews isn't nearly as bad as even Wolf Blitzer
Matthews has almost constant coverage of the CIA leak scandal, I have seen him do many fair interviews of Democrats...I totally don't agree with this.

I think they are just targeting Matthews because they think he may be easier to influence than O'Reilly, who would just think of the award as some sort of trophy.

22. Honestly, I never got over his coverage during the election
All Swift boats all the time. He gave some other airtime to his second favorite topic - gay marriage. He was horrible! I will never forgive him. As Jacob Marley said, we wear the chains we forged in life. I don't know if some of these media journalists will ever realize that they were instrumental in providing us with this world we live in now - a world at war, a world in which we excuse torture, a world where we let American citizens die on their roofs while we witheld aid. . .

AS Chris toasts marshmallows in Nantucket, is he even a tiny bit cognizant that he was a part of the dismantlment of our laws and traditions? I doubt it.

27. The problem is his "mood swings" make him totally unbelievable
You are correct that sometimes Tweety is very good at exposing things.

But he always undercuts that the next day by swinging to the other extreme....or sometimes even in the same show.

His message sems to be "Here's what the administration has done wrong, but none of it matters because Democrats and the Left are worse, and Bush is such a wonderful guy."

...the page went on forever and ever.

Euueewe...Creepy!

The guy has lost any semblance of credibility...all because (apparently) Bush invited him to the White House and sucked up to him for dressing nice. (I'm thinking there is something VERY GAY about Tweety's little obsession with Bush's comment about him "dressing preppie')

Thanks MediaMatters...for exposing this arrogant, pompous, self righteous motor-mouth.

29. Mr I-am-now-an-icon will interpret it as a compliment
He's a self-aggrandizing glory hound. When SNL "did" him, he said, "I am now an icon." When the Capitol policemen were shot and called heroes, he suddenly remember he had worked as one---a 3 month rent-a-cop turn. When he recounted his spell in the Peace Corps he said he "walked the same ground (in Africa) as CHURCHILL." He's delusional.

31. I agree......Tweety is more influential on the public than a Rush or a BO.
He is mare more sympathetic and derential to Republicans. He is biased towards more Republcan viewpoints and he's got a strange fixiation on Bush. He likes the guy...that clouds is judgement wat too much. His Mt. Rushmore comments sealed it for me. Who knows? Maybe Bush is holding some very compromising pics on this guy.
