Wiretaps said to sift all overseas contacts
I didn't see this posted yet. The article is highly speculative, but good non-the-less. It's worth a read.

"WASHINGTON -- The National Security Agency, in carrying out President Bush's order to intercept the international phone calls and e-mails of Americans suspected of links to Al Qaeda, has probably been using computers to monitor all other Americans' international communications as well, according to specialists familiar with the workings of the NSA...

<snip>

''The collection of this data by automated means creates new privacy risks," said Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a watchdog group that has studied computer-filtered surveillance technology through Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.

Among the risks, he said, is that the spy agency's computers will collect personal information that has no bearing on national security, and that intelligence agents programming those computers will be tempted to abuse their power to eavesdrop for personal or political gain.

But even when no personal information intercepted by the NSA's computers make it to human eyes and ears, Rotenberg said, the mere fact that spy computers are monitoring the calls and e-mails may also violate the Fourth Amendment. The Supreme Court has never ruled on whether automated surveillance of phone calls and e-mails, without a warrant, is constitutional..."

The Puzzle Palace, which has been out for a long long time

NSA has been monitoring every phone call outside the US, using keywords, for who knows how long

god knows what they can do now

that's part of what Danny Casolaro/Octopus was all about

8. Sure, this isn't news to a lot of us, but...
it is suddenly a lot more relevant. And now that it is getting front page treatment, a lot more people are going to be concerned by it.

2. Their computers must be clogged with useless info
The government is doing this to seek out the opposition so when the time comes we will all be rounded up and disposed of. Like my ancestors in Hitler's Germany.

5. exactly. also, somebody here made the excellent/obvious point
yesterday or the day before that all the pugs had to do was publicize the Aug 6, 2001 PDB, and NOTHING would have happened on 911

that's ALL they'd have had to do: just a heightened public awareness....just think how easy it would have been to find maniacs at 'flying schools' who only wanted to learn how to take off, and made no SECRET of it!

doesn't get much play anywhere, especially in the MSM/Corp Media

4. So the Supreme Court has never ruled on constitutionality
of this type of surveillance without a warrant.

"Hey, Alito, it's George. Can ya do me a favor?"
