Christian Wire Service: "Christmas Wars CONTINUE in Public Schools!!!"
You have to hand it to these people, they are keeping this shit up right until the 25th. Wanna bet most of these "war" incidents are legend or exagerrated?

Contact: Mathew D. Staver, Esq., Liberty Counsel, 407-875-2100, liberty@lc.org

ORLANDO, Fl., Dec. 23 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The war against Christmas continues in the public schools. In the past few weeks, Liberty Counsel has handled scores of Christmas cases. Here are a few examples of some school-related controversies. Additional information can be found at LC.org.

Birmingham, AL – Students at Brookwood Forest Elementary School were asked to create "holiday bags" for their classmates, but they were told the bags could not contain anything religious – no angels, crosses, or words like "Noel," etc. Candy canes were prohibited because they resemble the canes used by the Shepherds in the nativity. Red and green colors and Christmas trees were forbidden. Hanukkah dreidels were permitted.

Lewistown, PA – The Lewiston Elementary School prohibited a kindergarten student from passing out balloons to her classmates during a Christmas party because the balloons contained depictions of Biblical scenes, such as Noah’s ark or the battle between David and Goliath, along with a Bible verse below the picture. A school spokesperson stated the school was attempting "to separate church and state."

Medway, MA – The Medway Middle School banned students from wearing red and green elf hats during its "winter" pageant. Christmas trees were called "Magical trees." The school also pulled a religious song from the program.

Liberty Counsel learned of these cases hours before or shortly after the events took place. The fact that these events already occurred does not alleviate the schools of liability. Liberty Counsel will make sure that these schools do not commit these same constitutional violations in the future. Past violations are not immune from legal liability.

Liberty Counsel’s Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign first educates, and, if necessary, litigates to ensure that Christmas is not censored. In the past few weeks, Liberty Counsel has filed and won a federal lawsuit in Florida and resolved scores of Christmas cases.

Mathew D. Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, stated: "Educators need to be educated. Students can no longer be treated as prisoners in the war on Christmas. Students have the right to celebrate Christmas, especially when they engage in interpersonal communication. To treat as contraband anything associated with Christmas, like the colors red and green, Christmas trees or traditional carols, is absurd and insulting. Censoring Christmas is not safe. It is unconstitutional."

1. Magical trees?

I'm sorry.

Gee, they wouldn't let someone pass out balloons with religious messages on them at a public school? The horror!

in local newspapers from these towns?

6. Not friggin' likely....
These accounts sound a lot like those "astroturf" Letters to the editor from the "troops".

The fascist enablers just blow this stuff out of their butts.

3. they can piss off, schools out for HOLIDAY break
Maybe they can continue to delude people with their phantom war on christmas, next season.

If nothing else, I'll be glad when christmas is over just because I'm soooooooo freaking tired of having to hear anything about it.

7. I was surprised to find it, but I guess the Medway thing is true!
This article is from one of the major TV stations in Boston, and it says these things happened after two parents complained about references to Christmas in the program!

8. Gee, I guess the parents of the kid trying to pass out the
balloons with biblical scenes & phrases on them will have to find another way to proselytize.

Pimping your kid for Jesus in kindergarten is pathetic.

9. This is hilarious
Oh, the horror!

Lying, hysterical, bloviated bullshit from the religious fanatics who have nothing better to do with their time.

Christmas is one day. It is not supposed to be about haranguing people to make yourself look "better than they are" or make others look "not religious enough." Guess what: in this country, we are free to believe anything or not as much as we want! And we can say or not say anything too! So if somebody doesn't want to celebrate or talk about Christmas...

So f***in' what!

:7

Shut up, Bill O'Reilly.

Just go away.

10. I have a little problem with this and it has to do with
the Xtian right-wing's propensity for "bearing false witness".

But I'm sure Jesus won't mind a little lying if it can bring his imaginary birthday balloons back into the schools.

Like he said so many times in the Bible, "It's all about ME, baby!"

11. Not dead in my school
Last week one of my coworkers required the kids to bring candy to share in honor of the wise men bringing gifts to Jesus.

That entire "war on Christmas" is merely more Repug talking points. Falwell was already starting this campaign last year.
:boring:
