What do Freepers think the role of government should be
To me government's sole responsibility is to maintain the "health and welfare" of the nation...Maybe those two words have different meanings to different people.

2. leave them alone, make everybody else conform to their "values"
they think that the "health and welfare" of the nation would best be served if the government let *them* do whatever they want, but made everybody else do the same.

3. Its an odd contradiction
I think that once upon a time conservatives and Republicans believed in small government, minimal government interference in people's lives and markets, and minimal taxes. Now I think they believe in an expanding and authoritarian state. Not sure what else. But it seems that the freeper vision of America is a country that no one but a freeper would want to live in.

5. Feed the military industrial complex, deliver bombs, rape the
nation, raid the treasury, ignore citizen suffering, be corrupt, spy on citizens, relax environmental laws, rape the world.

6. So much hypocrisy and contradiction
The freeps just seemed awfully confused...
They want govt out of their gun lockers and bank accounts
but they want govt poking into "other people's" bedrooms.
They want govt out of the courtrooms...
(it seems they don't want courts at all with their venomous hate of judges and lawyers)
and want govt in the church and the classroom (as long as govt pushes their "agenda")
And most of all.. they seem to believe that the govt belongs in our homes,
on our phones, in our emails... all without a warrant.
How's that for a "free" republic... eh ??

it seems the freepers have discarded conservative tradition
for a more socially intrusive big government that burns money,
oppresses the minority, commits wars of aggression,
and doesn't even make sense... but oh yeah.. it's christian (tm).

They really are freeptards, aren't they ?

7. Govt's only legitimate function is protecting individual rights...
Unfortunately, both the Right and the Left continually press to transgress government's legitimate role, attempting to force people to conform to what they desire (and believe is "best" for everyone). There is no end to the human misery this causes.

14. I'm not a Freeper, but I do think.
Individuals have rights, the "Village" doesn't. "The Village" is just a warm 'n' fuzzy term for Big Brother and his attendant busybodies.

16. That's the original conservative viewpoint

10. They have no idea
However, they have been recruited and conditioned to be good team players. They are "conservatives." The republican party is the party or morals and integrity, therefore it is a team they want to (programmed to) belong to. Anything a republican does must be for the good of our country even if that includes insider trading, money laundering, lying, even extramarital sex by a republican would be given a pass by members of the "team." Free republic members have no concept of constitutional liberty or how government operates; but they have been programmed to wave flags and shout down "liberals" at opportune times for the party. They really don't know why they are waving the flag, and they can't tell you how, in tangible terms, they are supporting the troops; its just what the rest of the team is doing. And to top the master plan off, they are happy doing what they are doing

15. Enforcer.
I think many of them, whether they'll admit it or not, would like the government to establish and enforce laws against doing things they perceive as bad - like having abortions, taking drugs, and maybe even swearing. And of course blow up other countries who don't exhibit proper freeper behavior.

17. Freepers' main problem is that they confuse "citizen" with "consumer."
Both of these are proper human roles, but the citizen role, and therefore the government, have been demonized by corporate masters and their mouthpieces. It's much easier to be a consumer and respond to the needs of the id than to be a citizen and have to make decisions based on the common good. "Libertarianism" is often a corruption of this basic fear and selfishness, and rears its head quite often, even here on DU.

18. To kill foreigners.
Excuse me. I meant to say "To carry out America's glorious mission to spread Freedom & Democracy™ throughout the world." Or, as a grunt in Vietnam put it, "let me win your heart and mind, or I'll burn your fucking hut down."
