As thousands of Inland Hispanics make their way to their hometowns in Mexico for the holidays, many choose to make the two-hour drive to Tijuana, Mexico, for airline flights rather than use airports closer to home.
Riverside travel agent Sandra Lezama said her customers prefer the cheaper tickets, better flight options and fewer security restrictions at the Tijuana airport.
During nonpeak travel season, flights out of Tijuana can cost almost $200 less than flights out of Los Angeles International Airport or Ontario International Airport, said Lezama, who works at Morelia Travel in Riverside. For families who travel together, the added savings make up for the long drive, she said.
Even more importantly, not dealing with the long security lines at the local airports allows Perris resident Francisco Amaya to start his vacations with less stress.
