CIA’s Goss Reportedly Warned Ankara Of Iranian Threat

http://www.turkishpress.com/news.asp?id=89141

During his recent visit to Ankara, CIA Director Porter Goss reportedly brought three dossiers on Iran to Ankara.

Goss is said to have asked for Turkey’s support for Washington’s policy against Iran’s nuclear activities, charging that Tehran had supported terrorism and taken part in activities against Turkey.

Goss also asked Ankara to be ready for a possible US air operation against Iran and Syria.

Goss, who came to Ankara just after FBI Director Robert Mueller’s visit,

1. So Bush still intends to invade well-armed nations?
I mean, how can you impeach a president during World War III?

2. I can't see why we'd really need Turkey, we need political support?
We have stealth bombers that can fly in from Oklahoma, and lots of ships with plenty stealthy and fast cruise missles.

Why would arrogant Bush/Cheney mess around trying to bring in Turkey when Turkey stiffed them for the Iraq invasion?

It only really makes sense if this is bogus and intended only as saber rattling. But against who? Iran or to show the Iraqi Kurds the US is behing Ankara?

3. Iran.
Rattling the Kurds doesn't bring the US much, and besides, the Kurds have no reason to believe the US really will simply stand by and let Turkey invade. They know sentiment among US conservatives is totally against that (i.e. if it comes to that, bomb the Turkish divisions). And it's not like Turkey is in any hurry to lose ground troops to US attacks or to Kurdish forces. That's a last resort, not a first resort.
