Bizarre Crime at Sikh Temple in Bakersfield (CA)

December 23, 2005 - Someone is apparently trying to send a bizarre message to members of a Sikh temple in the South Valley.
Members left the temple after a meeting Thursday night to find two pig heads left outside the doors of their temple in Bakersfield.

A spokesperson says that just a week and a half ago eggs were thrown into their building.

Well, nobody accused racists of being very intelligent.

They think the the Sikhs are Muslim and would be offended by the pig heads. They are likely just an escalation from the eggs. It's probably kid, and they probably think they're being funny.

Having lived there for 5 years, I can tell you that the folks in that town would probably think anyone who wears any headwear other than a cowboy hat or a baseball cap is a Muslim.

It's kind of boring (because of a complete lack of anything to do), but it's not a bad place. I used to work with an attorney whose parents owned a guest ranch in Tehachapi :)

Soon after my daughters best friend who is also a Sikh, white Irish/English American girl, who became a Sikh during her college years where she obtained her degree in Psychology and works with troubled children. She arrived at our home attired in her white turbin, white pants and top and her turbin was donning a beautiful sparkling pin and colorful ribbons. My daughter questioned her dress, as she was worried about her safety and why she wasn't down playing her Sikh dress. Her response was, If they are going to kill me, I want to be wearing my finest.

His store is around the corner from my grandmother's house. There's a rather large shrine outside the store that the neighborhood maintains in memory of him.
