5. Three families were expelled from Makhmur town to Iraqi Kurdistan
6. Six families were expelled from the town of Tuz Khurmatu to southern Iraq.
7. The family of an exiled journalist denounced him on TV after being arrested.
8. The brothers of an opposition activist in Jordan were threatened.
9. A former human rights worker was arrested by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on suspicion of spying and released 5 months later.
10. A newspaper editor and a writer were arested by the The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)
GOOD - Positive action on human rights1. The Iraqi govt
ordered the release of all prisoners, including "prisoners, detainees and fugitives jailed for political reasons and all other ordinary reasons, including
sentenced to death… inside or outside Iraq". However, it excluded Arabs condemned or accused of spying for Israel and the USA.
2. Hundreds of Iraqis living abroad, including opposition activists, were said to have returned to the country following the amnesty.
3. The KDP and PUK announced the start of a reunification process and agreed to move forward with the implementation of the 1998 Peace Agreement signed in the US.
