Bush Shows Long Pattern of Contempt For Rule of Law

George Bush has come under criticism for his failure to follow the law and exceeded the authority granted by Congress in ordering domestic wire taps. This really shouldn’t have come as a surprise as such disregard for the law and the role of Congress is the norm in this Administration.

We saw this on health care when the Bush administration threatened to fire Richard S. Foster, the chief actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services if he testified before Congress about the true cost of Bush’s Medicare prescription drug program.

The manipulation of intelligence presented to Congress leading up to the Iraq war is another example of such disgregard for Congress and for the law.

Besides such misuse of intelligence, there was another act during the lead up to the war in which the Bush administration broke the law and misled Congress. The Bush administration diverted $700 million appropriated for use in Afghanistan for use to prepare for an invasion of Iraq without informing Congress.

Such a clear pattern of contempt for the law and the authority of the Congress provides examples of what the framers of the Constitution had in mind when they included provisions for the impeachment of the President.

1. It started long before he was selected
- He deserted his military unit to avoid a drug test showing utmost contempt and disdain for his fellow servicemembers and the Uniform Code of military justice.
- He profited from insider trading showing utmost contempt and disdain for the shareholders at harken enterprises.

barbara bush ought to be ashamed, but she can't trouble her beautiful mind about what she has wrought on the world.

2. True, it's a long pattern of behavior
I just wanted to concentrate on such conduct in office which would be relevant in considerations of censure or impeachment.

5. Thanks Doc!
And god knows what we are going to find out what this monster and his team of evil have done since being selected in 2000 that we don't already know? Is the NYT holding more information? Will abramoff breech the bush levy in DC? Will some staffer with a conscience turn over cheney's energy task force? What an incredibly evil lot. Conservatives had to make shit up about clinton. To oppose bush is to read the daily papers.

3. Correct. EASY case to make
I wish someone with national exposure would outline all the misdeeds while the iron is hot. There are dozens of examples of abuse of power that should be recalled now to paint an accurate picture of this administration.
