I just learned of this little tidbit
I heard this on Pacifica radio today.

Do you remember John Poindexter? He is now in charge of the Information Awareness Office under the Dept. of Homeland Security. Of course, this was reported a long time ago, but only now did I really find out about it.

He was the one during the Iran / Contra Affair that lied to Congress and received 5 felony counts for it. Him and Ollie North were caught selling arms behind the president's back (allegedly) to Iran and used the money to fund the Contra Army in Central America. The charges were later turned over in 1990 by a federal court on the basis that he accepted immunity in exchange for his testimony.

But this concerns me. I just thought I would bring it up.

Any other cronies from previous administrations that are serving in Bush Casa Blanca that some average Joe might not know about?

1. If you are Republican and break the law, you are a hero
Perfect example of that is Ollie North. The guy should be in prison, but instead he is respected by conservatives everywhere (mainly because he took the heat for Reagan) and has his own show on Fox

2. Is Poindexter trying to set the record
for the length of time between tendering one's resignation and actually leaving a job?

5. Yeah, bigtime: Negroponte!
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 07:29 PM by Ilsa
Whistle Ass appointed Negroponte US ambassador to the UN in March 2001 and is still there. He was ambassador to Honduras in early 1980's, where us aid increased by like 2000% to aid a US-backed regime there to fight the "leftist communists". There were over a hundred people who disappeared, and human rights violations and torture have been reported. They said Negroponte would have to be living under a rock not to have known it was going on, but still, he pleads no knowledge of human rights abuses.

8. Otto Reich
Former ambassador to Venezuela who, with help from Jeb Bush, pulled strings to win a presidential pardon for known terrorist Orlando Bosch. Bosch killed some 70-odd people in a Cuban civilian jetliner he bombed.

Reich also used to be Reagan's guy for planting media propaganda ginning up the Sandanista threat.
