Liberal talk in St. Louis?
Will it ever happen, or will Missouri continue to be a swarm of right wing neofascists?

1. The Most Religious Radio Market In The Country
I've been familiar with St. Louis radio back to the days when K-SHE and KADI were actually good. The days when KMOX was the most listened to local station in the country. You've gone a long way 'ole St. Louie.

I was in town last summer and seemed like every other station on the dial was a religious one or foreign language. While I suspect the rural areas...especially west of the city...aren't quite ready for AAR or Progressive talk, St. Louis has a tradition of some innovative and liberal radio. It was once the home to KDNA...one of the most eclectic stations ever to send out electrons.

The best bet for now is to pick up WCKY at night from Cincinatti. It has a booming 50,000 signal that bombs into St. Louis. The problem in finding an affiliate is the pool of available stations. Most of the AM stations in St. Louis have poor signals that don't cover the metro very well, or if they do, they're worth more doing sports or corporate hate talk right now. Also, one of the radio owners in St. Louis is Sinclair. Enough said on that.

Happy New Year...

3. I Only Get AAR Half The Day Here...
The local affiliate goes off the air at sunset. Currently that means I have to hear Randi Rhodes via Cincinatti or the internet. Also, I enjoy hearing local talk, news and information. Fortunately there are several college and public stations that offer some very good informational programming from Pacifica and Public Radio International.

Have faith...the worm has turned. If Democrats gain control of the House next year, look for an expansion of Progressive and liberal talk as the big corporates will want to look "friendly" to the new FCC landlords.

Cheers...

4. They should begin in Columbia, MO
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 03:52 AM by me b zola
Columbia is the only liberal haven in MO. If the signal is strong enough, Jefferson City which has a politically active AA comunity would be able to pick up the signal.

Then hit St. Louis & KC.

on edit: Jeff City is 30 miles from Columbia. I lived 60 miles from Columbia and picked up stations from Columbia, but that was FM from a station with a strong signal.

7. My wife wants to move back there
to be with family. I can't stand the small-mindedness that abounds there. It is a truly vile city. Capitol of beer-swilling, sports-loving, intolerant America.
