7. I think Clinton was Baptist
but I'm not sure.

Clark has the bases covered on religious affiliation! He doesn't seem to be particularly dogmatic or fundamentalist which works for me. Bush's endless references to God seem pretty disingenuous to me considering how much he lies and manipulates.

29. Sorry to disappoint but this is not a Clark rah-rah board
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 11:35 PM by Tinoire
any more than it is a Kerry, Dean or Kucinich rah-rah board.

It's a discussion board and people are free to express their opinions as well as their likes and dislikes.

Those expecting a rah-rah board might consider stuffing it ;)

31. Discussion Boards mean that
You can say any old thing?????

Clark is for real. He really is 1/2 Jewish...that's a fact

He really did grow up as a Baptist...that's fact

He really did convert to Catholism when he married his wife, who's from the Bronx, by the way.

He really was born in Chicago, naked and alone...that also a fact

He really was raised in the South...moved there at four, when his father died.

He really is a self made man from humble roots....that's a fact. His step dad was an alcoholic who didn't provide for his family.

He really did get a scholarship to West Point, that a fact.

He really did graduate First in his Class....that another fact.

He really was wounded 4 times in Vietnam...and kept on going in commanding his men...and that's a fact (earned him a silver & Bronze)

He really did go to Oxford to study as a Rhode Scholar...that's a fact.

He really did receive MA degrees in Philosophy, Economics and Politics....that's another fact.

He really can speak Russian and Spanish..that's another fact.

He really did become a 4 star General, and did really command a war in which no soldiers under his command perished....another fact.

He really is an honest person, thereby revealing that he voted Republican until Clinton....(as most military people do...because their interest are the arm forces..and Republicans, in the past, were the ones who would grow the military budgets)....and that's a fact.

He really did vote for Clinton and Gore (and Lieberman too) and, since we believe him when he said he voted Republican, we should also believe that he voted Democrat......

He really was a registered Independent, and that's a fact.

In my opinion, based on this man's background and the fact that I believe him to be earnest.....I will vote for him....and that's a FACT.

So for those who want to interpret him to be an opportunist....who might tell whomever his audience is whatever they want to hear....I say, you've just don't know the facts.

11. It's more than pathetic that we've only had white male presidents
Doesn't look like we're going to break that tradition this time around. I hadn't thought about Clarks religious background, but now I can see why I like him - I've got Catholic, Jewish and Protestant roots, too. Actually, I'm kidding, but not. I think it's a good thing - not a really big thing, but good. It gives you a different perspective on these things when your background is varied.

Jewish is a heritage, like being Irish. You get half your genes from your mommy and half from your daddy.

Do you think that German genes only pass through the father? LOL.

30. It's his father not grand-father
other-wise you're right according to Orthodox definition. What's interesting though is that Clark's claim is that he's a Kohain and that passes through the paternal line. I am still waiting on an explanation from a Talmudic scholar about this one because he not only claimed it but the claim was accepted and forwarded by Jewish papers world-wide to include Orthodox ones.

What fascinates me is that this election candidates were practically scrambling to parade their Jewish roots and associations. I'm still waiting for Sharpton to pull some babooshka out of his closet- Ethiopian maybe

28. What's His Opinion On CONDOMS And Birth Control?
Has he come forth and stated a firm position on civil unions for queers? Not just the standard vague generalized platitudes... but does he HONESTLY support FULL equality and protection under the law for gays and lesbians?

What are his opinions on family planning and AIDS research? Last time I visisted his web site, it seemed to be lacking these specifics.

35. I wonder about something, however
I know that Clark converted to Catholicism but I can swear that during a recent public meeting he referred to "talking to his minister" about running for president. Does anybody remember this? Also, I think I remember reading somewhere that he is currently attending a Presbyterian church?

And, in response to another post, Clark's wife came from Brooklyn, not the Bronx. In NYC that's a big difference. ;)

or agnostic  I wouldnt care. I think we have a long way to go before that happens unfortunely, it took long enough to elect a Catholic, we havent elected a minority or woman, and most if not all of the president are Western European blooded. I dont care what the faith is. BTW welcome to DU, plenty of Canadians here.

43. Not in God's Country
:)

Americans won't vote for a prez without a declared (mainstream) religion. It's somewhat annoying to this atheist, but not much can be done about it.

Anyway, Clark fans are just enjoying the thought that the election of their candidate might mark another milestone for tolerance and inclusiveness, this thread really isn't about religion.
