"Happy Holidays"--quick test to see if you mean it
Have you stopped saying "Happy Holidays" in the last two days?

I've noticed that since one particular holiday passed just a couple of days ago, suddenly no one is saying "happy holidays" anymore. Not on the phone, not in stores, not running into each other on the street.

There are five more nights each of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah (after tonight), and New Years hasn't passed yet. If you're not still saying Happy Holidays, maybe you really meant Merry You-Know-What and were just pronouncing it funny.

Fruitful Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year to all on DU, even if you failed this little test.

11. That's a ridiculous question!
The huge ass bunny lays the eggs after you dye them. Anyone knows that.

3. Christmas season ends at Epiphany - Jan. 6th
It is proper to say "Happy Holidays" until then to Christians.

14. Yes. I was moved to do some research this holiday season
and learned that traditionally there were twelve days of Christmas (remember the song?) the first day being the 25 of December, and the last one being the Epiphany. That's where the reference to Twelfth Night comes from (the name of a Shakespeare play).

I must admit that this discovery has made for a more relaxing Christmas season here, especially since I din't have time to get much of anything done before Christmas. I now feel OK about continuing to listen to Christmas music, watch Christmasy movies, make Christmas cookies, and give out late gifts, knowing that it's still technically Christmas.

Then of course, the Russians, and other Eastern Orthodox folks, traditionally celebrate Christmas on Jan. 7th, I believe, so it's appropriate to continue with holiday greetings up to that date IMO.

Being rather fond of Christmas, I like the idea of having two weeks to celebrate it, rather than one day. I'm not even a Christian either.

4. I said it several times today
I may be pronouncing it funny, making the "o" rather like "ow", but that's just my nasal accent.

8. Truly the best thing for business is to skip mentioning any
reference to any holiday whatsoever. The place I work for asked us to preface our scripts with a holiday greeting, this year they didn't do it.

If it pisses off the customers, then it's best to avoid it.

13. and Jan. 7 is Orthodox Christmas--what about a War on THAT Christmas!
the Orthodox are as Christian as Pat Robertson and Buzzy McFalafel (more so, since few of them are key players in Revelations), but nobody hardly wishes THEM "Merry Christmas" in Janu'ry!!!

15. CNN had clips of GIs with holiday greetings to us back home.
Apparently they didn't get O'Reilly's memo because most said "Happy Holidays."
