My, my. . .in still another move which signifies the new heart and soul of "compassionate conservatism," the Ku Klux Klan has announced they'll be demonstrating in Des Moines, Iowa against not only gay marriage but the right of gays to exist. In what is sure to be a heartwarming event for the religiously superior in the Republican Party, the KKK intends to press home the true goals of extremist "family" groups who only debate extermination vs...oh, say...forced reparative therapy...as an approach to handling the gay "problem."
Freepers expressed initial alarm at the announcement of this demonstration, and meetings were scheduled so the morans could figure out how to design their own sheetwear for their celebration of tolerance. "I haven't worn this hood outside of the house in eight years," remarked one Freep, who expressed concern over which religiously correct crucifix to wear around his neck. "Usually my wife only lets me get this out when she wants to pretend she is with a new bed partner."
Gay activists were quick to laugh off this latest fashion faux pas by the Right as another example of how irrelevant the hetero-supremacists are in modern society. "Anyone who would wear a white sheet in public in the middle of January has no business talking about whether someone else has the right to exist," one spokesperson said. "This is what happens when Republicans launch a war on Halloween - all the real goblins forget that you don't wear clothing that blends into a snowdrift to a parade. They can't depend on people taking them seriously when they wander around the state capitol like nursing home escapees with skid marks appearing on the back of their sheets as they billow in the cold winter winds behind their bodies."
Ok...anyway, the REAL story is here:
(Des Moines, Iowa) The Ku Klux Klan is preparing to stage a demonstration next month in Des Moines, Iowa to protest a lawsuit seeking marriage equality for same-sex couples.
The protest and rally is being organized by the leader of the Klan's northern Iowa branch.
"We don't believe God's law should be perverted any more than it already has been," said Douglas Sadler, 41, who identified himself as the region's imperial klailiff.
"The further we go away from God's law, the further we get away from God."
Six same-sex couples filed suit earlier this month in Polk County seeking to have Iowa's Defense of Marriage Act struck down. (story)
The suit argues that under the equal protection and due process guarantees in the Iowa State Constitution it is unlawful to bar same-sex couples from marrying.
Whatever the ruling in the case, it is expected the issue ultimately will be decided by the Iowa Supreme Court.
While Iowa already has a Defense of Marriage Act that denies same-sex couples the right to marry, an attempt to pass a constitutional amendment to block gay marriage died in the legislature earlier this year.
Sadler predicted a large number of Klan members would attend the rally, and suggested that gays should be exterminated.
"We don't believe they have the right to marry," Sadler told the Associated Press. "In fact, we don't think they have the right to exist."
