Are the Democrats really losing a Senate seat??

If they can't elect another Democrat to replace Zell Miller???? In my opinion, he is even farther "out" than real Republicans. He thinks the party left him???? Kind of like leaving a model T for a T-Bird.

1. No matter how he voted,

Miller counted as a D for majority/minority control of the Senate and all committees. So yes, we'll lose if a Repuke wins that seat.

4. pretty moot point now, isn't it?

Even if we do lose that seat, I'll gladly give up one vote for D control of the Senate in exchange for being rid of the early-and-often bullshit bipartisan cover he gives the Pukes.

5. Right now, sure.

But I'm talking about the 2004 election. Barring Diebold "guaranteeing" some results here and there, I think we have a real chance to recapture one or both of the Senate and House. In the Senate we'll need every D we can get.

9. still a moot point, since he's not running

(thanks to the deity of your choice). Should be an interesting race, especially if Thurbert Baker runs. Do the Ds retain the seat? I don't know.

2. Not just him

There is also the Democrat from South Carolina AND Breaux I think (I'm not sure). However, the Senator from Illinois is giving up his seat and everyone is almost certain that a Dem will win (Obama I hope)

10. any of the Illinois Dem contenders

will be a nice addition to the senate. Obama would be a great choice as well as others. Fitzpuppet's days are numbered in the senate. There was no way he could win another election. He's smart to step aside.

We can forget that seat in Georgia and Hollings' in SC. If Breaux doesn't seek reelection in LA, that one is up for grabs, too.

Fitzgerald's repub seat in IL seems a sure pick-up. Incumbents Reid in NV, Dorgan in ND, and Lincoln in AR, once thought vulnerable, now seem likely to hold their seats. Daschle is a toss-up for reelection in SD, but hasn't stated finally if he is running or not.

Boxer is thought to be safe in CA, but with the recent recall upheaval, who knows?

The biggest problem is the numbers: there are 19 Democratic seats up next year vs only 15 repubs, which makes it hard to make any net gains.

12. timing, maybe.

From what I've read, Cleland didn't take losing to a fuckstick like Chambliss very well, and I can't say that I blame him. I'd be surprised if we didn't see him back eventually, but it may be too soon right now.
