Rummy is being groomed as fall guy? True/False?
I saw Rummy quoted on ABC about the "internal memo" and his comment about a "tough slog" and other fairly benign stuff. The piece was clearly an attack on Rummy, and given Bush's claim that he wants no leaks, how did the memo get out and why is ABC/the media pushing this relatively innocuous document as a smear on Rummy?

The only conclusion I can come to about it is that they are setting him up - my guess is the spin will be he "did a great job in the war but failed in the reconstruction efforts". That would leave Condi in charge of a kinder, gentler opression of the Iraqi people so that the oil companies can get in and take the winnings.

What do you think?

1. He and Powell are rumored to not be asked back if he's in in 2004.
But also, someone has to take the fall. The little
squib in the white house won't. Since rummy's been
out of the loop a while, yes, I would agree.

2. False
Rummy Is A Big Part Of All This From The Get Go, However, What He Said Is What He Said (And We Don't Have Much Reason For Doubt) - So I Am As Confused About This As You.

I Believe, However, That They Would Never Set Rummy Up - He Has A Buttload Of Influence. If Your Theory Is Correct, Rice Better Watch Her Ass, Rummy Is Gonna Bust It Open...

Regardless, It'll Be Fun To Watch

Cheney is the big fall guy.

Rump might be colateral damage, however.

5. Possibly
Or maybe someone else here is at work. Maybe this is a legacy of Bush picking a fight with the CIA. It wouldn't surprise me if they could acquire this kind of info.

6. This is election season, Bushie must be shown to be in charge
The Bushie white house happily manipulates the media, I don't believe anything that comes out good or bad for a while to allow the filter of time to show it for what it really is.

8. Nah, he's a mean old cuss; he'd take 'em down and they know it
This Administration is far less organized and cohesive than many here seem to think. They're rather incompetent in their merciless onslaught on all that is good and decent, so that's some comfort.

I'm sure they regret bringing him in, since he thinks he's the State Department and the Privy Counsellor all rolled up into one. With any luck, we'll live long enough to see all of those emails he sends to the rest of the crew out of his delusion that he's actually the Regent.

9. Could be a bogus memo
leaked just in time for the donors conference in Madrid. If somebody in the administration is suddenly "starting to make sense", "sees the light", maybe the ferners will be fooled by it and open their bank vaults in a gesture of support. Or some such trickery.

10. Any Shuffle Like That Is An Admission of Weakness
not their strategy, not in their nature... False - as are all the Powell/Cheney rumors.
