patriotic Congressman (R-IA) says Dean's words incite Iraqis to kill GIs
Iowa's 5th District Congressman Steve King said Democrats who bitterly criticize the Bush administration for pursuing the war in Iraq are essentially giving "aid and comfort to the enemy" and said he believes the naysayers will pay a political price for their stance.

Recapping his weekend trip to Iraq, King spoke about how many Iraqis have satellite dishes broadening their world via the ability to hear international news. He said his "nightmare" is that the comments by Democratic Party presidential candidates, particularly Howard Dean, describing a "failed policy in Iraq," will be heard by Iraqis and other terrorists in the vicinity, giving them encouragement.

<snip>

Such messages, King said, are "being beamed into Iraq. ... When they see that on their television, you tell me, are they going to build more bombs or less? Are they going to have more or less courage to plant those bombs and detonate those bombs and kill Americans? I believe that that gives aid and comfort to the enemy and those positions are anti-American." Further, he said, to "undermine the efforts of our troops, I believe is unconscionable and they should be held accountable for it ... I think the voters will hold them accountable."

3. Channeling Ashcroft?
This guy is going to find that a lot of ordinary americans agree with Dean and the rest about Iraq.

He must have a very right-wing constituency to be so hysterically hawkish.

Bleh. Ignore him.

5. "Many Iraqi's have satellite dishes"...................
no electricity, no food, no water, but they're all huddled around their satellite TV's watching Democratic candidates call Bush on this travesty of a war and they're thinking to themselves, "you know, these Democrats have a point, I think I'll go kill some more GI's just as soon as "Wheel of Fortune" is over." Republicans are SUCH idiots. :eyes:

7. "Aid and Comfort" is the phrase of things to come - EDITED
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 02:31 AM by rucky
Aid and comfort to the enemy is what's known colloquially as "Treason." (US Const III.3)

"Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court. "

It's one thing when Mann Coulter uses this phrase to sell more books for kooks. But when a US Congressman starts throwing out this kind of legalese, it needs to be taken VERY seriously.

They're testing the waters for a new McCarthyism. Dollars to donuts we WILL see at least one opposition player brought to these charges by this time next year.

14. To be utterly clear
The GOP is asserting that campaigning against Shrub is a criminal act.

When this kind of threat comes out of the mouths of a country's ruling party, it's time to head for the exits.

I think it's important to let the rest of the world know we don't all agree with King George. If only the extent of it was being reported. Ask anyone who does business in other countries how often they are asked if they support the wars, in a way that presumes they do.

I'm just hoping the neocon propaganda machine doesn't work as it's intended, and all the people who think it's wrong and are bullied into shutting up by flag-waving pretend troop supporters will vote their consciences. Because by 2008 it will be unfixable.

10. My ass.
Something tells me that what incites Iraqis to kill Americans is that the Iraqis see this large group of heavily armed men who invaded their nation, killed their countrymen, and are currently imposing their will on the remaining population through armed force. And they don't like it.

Can't say I really blame them.

12. Fascist all war all the time to try to prohibit any criticism of Bush*
and the GOP. They did this bullcrap after the 2000 election also, saying that noone should talk about his illigitimacy.

They push through their extremist bills using "national security" and "anti-terrrorism" as their cover. Hiding behind the flag with their nationalism.

what a Huge mistake this attack on an innocent nation was/is. It makes them look as pathetic as their unelected "leader". They sound so desperate - Guess "mom" never taught them that the least said is the easiest mended. Especially is you're a nitwit.

15. It is my contention outlandish as it may seem

That invading their country unprovoked so as to control their oil
after starving them for ten years and causing untold pain and misery may perchance have something to do with Iraqis wanting to kill GIs

Hey I have an idea insane as it may seem lets find some Iraqis of the GI killing persuasion and ask them.

20. It only enhances our security and is to our benefit
that Iraqis see evidence of opposition to Bush and his failed policies from the US. It can only bring them hope for a better future relationship--as it brings us hope as well.
