The attack of the (talking points), your predictions & hope's for 04
Dear friends it is intuitional knowledge that perception trumps reality when it comes to the Bewildered Herd (Walter Lippmans term) as far as persuading them to move in one direction or another. Joe and Jane public don’t have the aptitude to investigate who truly has their best interest integrated in a candidate’s policy. They (BW) get their news, perceptions, and conclusions from word of mouth, glanced at headlines and repetition of talking points. The Republican strategy will be to over simplify the issues into confined black and white boxes.

We must be prepared for the stampede of anti-intellectual talking points that are designed to appeal to passion and emotions while serving their dual purpose of over shadowing reason.

The Republicans will use the following talking points in some type of variation.

They want a tax increase
The world is better off without Saddam Hussein
They are weak on National Security

What talking points do you think the Republicans will pull out of their play book, and what should be the counter talking point?

What will be the Democrats talking points? What do you hope will be their talking points?

An unexciting truth may be eclipsed by a thrilling lie. – Aldous Huxley

1. democrats should go HARD with
....'It's the economy, stupid.'

and

...'Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?'

I think we should win with the economy; not so sure about war, terrorism, etc.

That's looking at the country as a whole - not just some of the partisan purists at DU.

They want a tax increase

We care for the common man,

are yuo better off today than you were four years ago?
Did those tax cuts really help YOU?
How much are you paying in fees?
Are you getting basic services?
Schools need money.

The world is better off without Saddam Hussein

Yes, yes it is, but that is not the question, We went to war over WMDs where are they?

They are weak on National Security

The GOP has destroyed the Armed Forces
We don't have enough troops to accomplish missions
The GOP supports the troops by cutting services to Veterans

Oh and in particular to taxes, we need to change the national
language used by the GOP, who claim there are lucky duckies.... taxes should be redefined as fees for government services at all levels, from roads and schools to national defense... make them (and government once again) the good guys

I could go on...

3. The Birth Tax
We should counter their advocacy of "the death tax" with complaints about the birth tax they are laying on every child being born with their irresponsible deficits. How much does a child born today already owe to fight their wars of aggression?

Do you want a death tax or a birth tax?

I also think John Edwards is onto something when he talks about how they only want to tax work, not wealth. Abolition of estate taxes, capital gains taxes, dividend taxes... all of those are taxes on existing wealth. The repugs want to do away with all of those while taxing only those who work.

Do you want work taxes or wealth taxes?

4. Don't forget this one:
The Republicans have become the party of "cheap labor". Every bill is designed to gut workers rights and enhance corporate America.
