4. YEEEEE HAWWWW!!
Where can I get the new neo-conservative version of the bible? Only one I keep finding is the one that says god forgives all sins, judge not least ye may be judged, and he who is without sin cast the first stone. It says nothing about Killing the homo-f@#$, stupid tree-hugging commie pinko libbies, or good christains voting republican.

32. Okay, let's be a little bit realistic about the bible.
The bible says that we should love everybody, even if they are homosexuals and other sinners that are going to a place of eternal fire.

I don't support that view, but I don't think that we should deny what the bible is actually saying unless there's a mistranslation or some other terrible misunderstanding about it.

18. yesterday in SF I saw but one lone "pro-killing-troops" freeper
wearing a flag t-shirt, carring a sign that said "Iraq is free- get over it"

he moved VERY fast amongst the crowd, so fast none of us could catch him for a picture. Probably afraid of the pro-peace leftist violence...

17. If we ever go truly fascist in the US,
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 03:25 PM by Cat Atomic
these guys will be the cause. The huge fundamentalist population in the US will be the root of it.

Right now, Republicans appease them with symbolic shit like anti-flag burning laws and prayer in schools, but they're as afraid of these kooks as anyone else.

The problem is that they may find that they've got a tiger by the tail. Fundies are already exerting more and more influence on the Republican party as a whole. It really is similar to the pre-Hitler days in Germany... the way the establishment courted the future Nazis by accomodating their demands more and more in their platform, until they'd lost control.

These guys would love to set up camps with gas chambers- never doubt it.

.. that Phelps was supposed to have his lemmings in Poulsbo, WA last night to protest the play "The Laramie Project" at a theatre in town. Tons of people showed up to protest the idiots, but alas, they apparently didn't show up. So it wouldn't surprise me if they were at the SF and DC gatherings.

Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 04:24 PM by Bertha Venation
I called Kathy in to look at the photo of the two counterdemonstrators. She was instantly reminded of a statue at a church near the Murrah Building in OKC. We saw this statue when we saw the OKC Memorial during a cross-country trip in '00.

Despite your belief or non-belief in Jesus' existence or deity, or what you think of the various messages of the Christian church, I find this statue apt commentary on the beliefs of the individuals in your photograph.

"What would Jesus do," indeed.

30. In fairness.....
That appalling behavior is not representative of most Republicans. I'm sure that the majority of Republicans are shuddering to see people like that representing their views.

This doesn't mean that I support the Republicans. I just don't think that we should allow these idiots to be representative of them.

35. I disagree. We need to define the republican party as the party of these
people. And as the party of racists and bigots, like Haley Barbour. Then decent Americans who vote republican can make an informed choice as to whether they want to support these bigoted hate mongers.

These people would have no political influence if the republican party did not obey their demands. If the republican party rejected this foul filth, or if decent Americans rejected the republican party for not doing so, this country and the entire world would be much better off.

As long as decent democrats and republicans pretend that the Reich wing fundamentalists and the racist bigots are an insignificant part of the republican party the influence of those hate mongers will continue to grow.

33. It should be noted...
....the guy on the right had to get his sign out of the trash to use it.

When he first showed up, he got into a screaming match with several protesters and put down his sign.

Somebody who looked an awful lot like a DUer and matching the description of me dragged his sign to the garbage where another protester and I (oops....I mean....the suspect) shoved it into the can.

I heard they spit on it, too.

Sodomite - Think Bush has ever gotten a blow job? Growing up in the 60s and 70s? Likely. If not, he sure needs one.

Abortionist - If you believe the rumors...

Drunkard - Three letters: DWI

I guess these guys don't read the papers much.

42. I have run into the bald guy before and am pretty sure he is a Phelps nut
Had to deal with his antics at the Atheist march on DC a while back. I think he is one of Phelps enforcer types to make sure they don't get beat down while beating others down. Tried to use the Luke 6:30 bomb to get his bullhorn away from him. Unfotunately he sees his religious beliefs as a weapon to assail others with rather than to obey. Go figure... a hypocritical fundimentalist. Who would of thought it was possible.
