running mates?
Any idea on who the eventual nominee may take as his running mate? Word was that it would be Dean-Clark, but I'm not sure if Clark can go there now that he has invested so much of himself into winning the nomination. Could any of the candidates serve as the running mate to Dean, Clark, or Gephardt? Personally, if not a Dean-Clark ticket, I would like to see Dean-CMB.

1. When I recall
the merge of previosuly "diametrically opposed" candidates Bush and Regan, I remember that a lot of rhetoric can be swept aside when it comes time to unite. Here are some pairings that may seem odd now, but which I think are entirely realistic in a run against Bush:

Lieberman/Edwards
Dean/Kerry
Clark/Kucinich
Gephardt/Lieberman
Edwards/Sharpton
Kerry/Dean

3. Kerry/Dean or Dean/Kerry
won't happen, because they are both from the Northeast, which is perceived as a bastion of liberalism by many in the rest of the country, especially the South. I think there will have to be a Midwesterner or Southerner in the team.

Let's get real, though. There's a very good chance that you could run Clark and Edwards and still not win a southern state. I think Dems may need to rethink their strategy and possibly forgo even trying. If you carry the east coast, west coast, Florida, and industrialized midwest, that's enough.

18. Democats don't have to win in the south, but
they have to compete. If the Democrats just give up on the south and get squashed there, then the Republicans will win senate seats in N Carolina, S Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

2. I agree with your choices
I think Dean-Clark would be good, because of the geographic balance as well as the fact that Clark has military experience. But Mosley-Braun as VP would bring in minority votes and feminist votes. Plus I like her style.

Don't know if any of the candidates will accept the VP slot, though. There's a lot of ego investment in running for the White House, and I'm not sure how many of them can let go of that for the greater good of the ticket and the country. If they can, my hat's off to them.

I think CMB would accept the VP slot, but would it really be offered to her? She would bring in votes, but the racist underbelly of America would really be exposed if she were to run with Dean. I would have to say that, unfortunately, he presence on the ticket would make Dean less likely to win.

It's not going to happen. Women make up over 50% of the electorate and CMB is hanging out in the single digits in every poll. Women won't vote for her just because she's a woman.

Clark/Dean would be better but I hope the former is the ticket. Dean has the best chance at getting the bucks, apparently.

Clark has raised money like crazy since he annonced. A fairly astounding rate actually. I could live with Clark/Dean but I'd like to see Bill Richarson (NM) as Clarks Vice Presidential compadre.

7. John Edwards MUST Be On the Ticket
There needs to be a Southerner on the ticket for the Democrats to win. Look at the electoral college and look at recent history.

Not my dream ticket*, just my prediction. This balances between the Midwest and the South. Both have crossover appeal and extensive resumes. Remember, though, that my last prediction on this board was that Ahnult would drop out of the California race. :)

I think you take Dean or Kerry and pair them up with Clark or Edwards. Graham is also good but I think Clark/Edwards is better. I don't think anyone would be too proud to turn down the veep spot.

24. two candidate ticket?
I notice a lot of people put two current candidates together as a potential ticket. Historically, the chances of that happening are slim, since the last time a Democratic nominee chose a fellow candidate as a running mate was when Adlai Stevenson gave the nod to Estes Kefauver in 1956.
