Looks like Scaife is behind this Episcopalian Schism
http://www.post-gazette.com/localnews/20030921episcopal0921p3.asp

http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0806-10.htm

I spoke to a member of my husband's family who is a retired Episcopal priest and he stated that he firmly believes that Pittsburgh's own deviant alcoholic Richard M. Scaife is behind this anti-gay conservative schism mess.

He also stated that he didn't think the schism was all that big a deal because only those zealots that want to start their own church would break off and the church would be better off without them.

Personally I am happy for Robinson, he sounds like a great guy. Perhaps one day we will live in a world where everyone gets along and accepts people's differences.

1. Ahmanson reference is more telling = christian theocracy for the U.S.
Christian reconstructionists are not dissimilar from the Taliban. They are creepy guys.

I hope the general population of Episcopalians are made aware of this. Christian Reconstructionists are an unsavory lot.

There was a mention of this in one of the Denver papers on Saturday. I don't have a link, but the article didn't have the detail of yours, although it did mention the christian theocracy doctrine for the U.S. government.

4. Church "takeovers" happen. Southern Baptist churches are a good eg.
Good article on how it happened:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article2993.htm

(Brings back memories of seeing first-hand how a small SBC we attended was almost taken over by a family who wanted the father installed as the preacher. They came sooo close. Only a deacon VERY familiar with Robert's Rules saved the day.)

5. Ahmanson has repudiated Christian Reconstructionism,

according to the article. Do you have reason to believe that he and his wife still support Christian Reconstructionism (which is indeed very creepy)?

2. There are several Conservative groups pushing these divisions &
People like Scaiffe may well be contributing to these groups. After having taken over the Southern Baptists, they're now trying to do as much damage as they can in the more Liberal Protestant denominations.
And it's not because they are driven by RELIGION! It's the POLITICAL ramifications that ultimately motivate them, i.e. moving the electorate to more and more Conservative views.

Meanwhile, Conservative DUers resist every effort we "Liberals Like Christ" make to promote the idea that Jesus was a Liberal and his followers should have no reservations about supporting the Liberal Democrats over Conservative Republicans. See

http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org

See what Christ might say about the "Christian Coalition" & "Religious Right" imposters.

3. The sinner Pat Robertson
has been pushing it on his show lately. All these conservative groups outside the Episcopilian church are pushing it.
