Text of Bush Press Conference
Edited on Tue Oct-28-03 12:53 PM by Skinner

BUSH: Good morning.

After the 26,000-mile journey last week, I hope the members of the traveling press had a restful weekend.

I have a brief statement, then I'll be glad to take questions.

On my trip to Asia I had a series of very productive meetings with some of America's closest allies in the war on terror. Nations such as Australia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines are fighting terrorism in their own region. Their leaders understand the importance of our continuing work in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Liberating the people of those nations from dictatorial regimes was an essential step in the war on terror. The world is safer today because Saddam Hussein and the Taliban are gone.

We are now working with many nations to make sure Afghanistan and Iraq are never again a source of terror and danger for the rest of the world. Our coalition against terror has been strengthened in recent days by U.N. Security Council Resolution 1511. This endorses a multi- national force in Iraq under U.S. command, encourages other nations to come to the aid of the Iraqi people.

Last week at -- a donor conference in Madrid brought together more than 70 nations to discuss future contributions to Iraqi reconstruction. America appreciates the recent announcements of financial commitments to Iraq offered by many of the donors at the conference. After decades of oppression and brutality in Iraq and Afghanistan, reconstruction is difficult and freedom still has its enemies in both of those countries.

2. regarding plamegate

i think this segment is very telling that the fix is in.
note that he doesn't say he wants the truth to come out, he just wants the murkans to belive the answer they put forth

-------------------------------------------------
QUESTION: Thank you, Mr. President.

You have said that you are eager to find out whether somebody in the White House leaked the identity of an undercover CIA agent. Many experts in such investigations say you could find out if there was a leaker in the White House within hours if you asked all staff members to sign affidavits denying involvement.

.QUESTION: Why not take that step?

BUSH: Well, the best person to do that so that the -- or the best group of people to do that so that you believe the answer is the professionals at the Justice Department. And they're moving forward with the investigation. It's a criminal investigation. It is an important investigation.

"So that you believe the answer"?!
It's another instance of Bush saying the opposite of the truth baldly, blatantly, without any fear of being called on it. And it's also as though he's having another "Message: I care" moment, saying exactly what Karl told him literally to say to any reporter who asked: "Tell them the DOJ is the best group of people for the job. Cause you know, they'll believe anything DOJ says, those suckers!"

3. Wow...how did they get a transcipt so fast?...
There is a blow by blow commentary in the lounge as well.

I saw the most ridiculous News Conference that has ever been foisted on the American public.

For those International friends, Please, remember, this guy is not representative of Americans...The vast majority of us have IQ's far above what that slobbering fool has.

Everyone who saw that N/C will agree that his is THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER!

4. Maybe not a vast majority
But hopefully a simple majority, at least.

7. Sorry but you are so wrong that I could not just let this slide.
If the vast majority of Americans had anything even resembling an IQ far above McChimp’s, this entire administration would already be in jail.

9. He read that with almost no errors. I bet his buddies in the second grade
were real proud of him. How embarrassing. He sounded like he could care less and all this world stuff was a real pain in the ass, like it was interfering with his jog or his nap.

Now this here is what we're up against next year:

"I'll say that the world is more peaceful and more free under my leadership, and America is more secure, and that'll be how I'll begin describing our foreign policy."

This is the foundation of the premise that Americans should (re?)elect bush* in 2004.

This hypothetical is one that can be systematically and thoroughly discredited, as it is patently false on several points. However, it must be done in such a way that large segments of the population are not sucked into the mix. For instance, it would be unwise, in any manner, to link the blame for a lack of peace in occupied Afghanistan or Iraq with the members of US military forces deployed there.

The counter-campaign must be a "surgical strike" in this respect.

12. One of my favoritest (to use a Bushism) parts...
...

<snip>
We're working hard with the members to make the case that it's very important for us not to saddle Iraq with a bunch of debt early in its -- in the emergence of a market-oriented economy, an economy that had been wrecked by Mr. Saddam Hussein. I mean, he just destroyed their economy and destroyed their infrastructure, destroyed their education system, destroyed their medical system, all to keep himself in power. He was the ultimate...
</snip>

Didn't he just describe exactly what he, his Administration, and Repubs in general have accomplished here?

Later,
JM
