Don Imus r.e. "you've got a face for radio" statement by Bush
I don't much like Don Imus; he's too negative for my tastes. However, he briefly turned that negativity toward Bush this morning when talking about Bush's quip to the radio reporter yesterday.

Imus said (as closely as I can recall, and directed at the President): Face for radio? How about, you've got a mind for Kindergarten.

5. Imus is pro-Imus
He'll attack anyone, given the right circumstances.
I'm sure he doesn't care about Bush one way or another.

26. Imus was a liberal and pro-Clinton in 1992 - then he married
a young conservative woman in her early 20s (he was over 50) and began talking like a conservative shortly thereafter. She must have been terrific in the sack!!

But the straw that broke the camel's back was when Imus was invited to be the speaker at the annual press dinner in Washington and told a bunch of seedy jokes about Monica Lewinsky and Hillary that the Clintons clearly did not appreciate. Up to that point Bill was a regular on Imus. After the dinner Imus had a vendetta against the Clintons and has gone after them ever since.

I think Imus is at the end of his infatuaution with Bush. Jack Welch and 9-11, notwithstanding. He'd rather be on the side of the NYC Firefighters.

8. The Most Ballistic (real or otherwise) EVER
Besides screaming what the posters have said above, also called him a moron. The "face for radio" cut to the bone, not for the literalness of it, but because he knows the obnoxiousness of Shrub-loose-cannon would be turned on ANUS if the proximity allowed and ANUS would NOT be able to respond to the IMPERIAL POWER. Still, it was the first and most time the ANUS negativity has been aimed at moran Shrub.

9. I don't like Imus either
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 08:54 AM by prolesunited
but that IS a funny line.

I was watching that news conference and I couldn't believe that exchange. It wasn't just that one line either. This isn't verbatim, but the exchange went something like this:

Reporter: Thanks for giving us radio people the opportunity to ask questions.
Bush: You have a face for radio.
Rep: Yes, you've told me that before, sir.
Bush: But this is the first time before a national audience.
Rep: No, before it was in front of my wife.

Can you believe this petty, bullying man is the leader of the free world?!?!? :wtf:

Reading between the lines, Bush has repeatedly tried to humiliate and belittle this guy, even trying to emasculate him in front of his wife. You think this would be enough. But, no, Bush makes it a point of braggingly doing it on the national stage. I would expect better behavior out of a 5-year-old!

11. He's so vile.
Since you watched the news conference you probably caught the exchange with the reporter who "interupted" him? "Sir, can I ask a question?" Shrub.."No, I'm not finished and since you interupted me, no, you can't ask a question."...(paraphrase) The reporter made him lose his place in the answers that his handlers had written down for him....THAT is a no-no.

15. instead of laughing at his sorry ass "jokes"
I wish the "media" would band together and constantly interrupt the pinhead at every turn. That would make for some interesting viewing. Oh silly me, that would be assuming the DipShit gave press conferences on a regular basis.

Grow some spines, dammit!

20. Too late for that
Remember, those idiots knowingly participated in that scripted charade before the war. Waited for their cues and didn't blow cover, like good lapdogs. If the Boy King hadn't fucked up in a nervous moment, we might not have known it was staged. An absolutely disgusting and frightening display of media puppetry.

17. Don't recall offhand
but went back to look at the news conference threads and couldn't find it there either. The name of the radio reporter he was insulting was Mark Smith, and although he wasn't striking, he was far from ugly.

19. It's at the White House site
Let's see. Mark Smith, a radio man.

Q Thank you very much, sir, for including our radio folks here.

THE PRESIDENT: A face for radio. (Laughter.)

Q I wish I could say that was the first time you told me that, sir. (Laughter.)

THE PRESIDENT: The first time I did it to a national audience, though. (Laughter.)

Q Actually -- my wife the last time. (Laughter.)

...

...And, by the way, in the Madrid conference, most of the money came from the World Bank and the IMF, which are lending institutions, as you know. The Iraqi oil revenues, excess Iraqi oil revenues, coupled with private investment, should make up the difference to fund the estimates of what the World Bank thought was necessary to help that country.

Q Another radio? Another radio, Mr. President?

THE PRESIDENT: Excuse me -- particularly, since you interrupted me, no.

And that's what the World Bank estimated it would cost, and it looks like we'll be able to help the Iraqis get on their feet and have a viable marketplace.

23. The "Wife" Was the Killer Riposte - for Crude/Boorish Shrub
Notice how this LA Times piece and others are SKIPPING OVER SMITH's telling remark about how Shrub was the most boorish, churlish, crudest POS:

******QUOTE*****

http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/showcase/la-na-bushstyle29oct29.story
.... "A face for radio," Bush rejoined, invoking a line he has applied to other radio reporters.

To that, a slightly chagrined Smith replied: "I wish I could say that was the first time you told me that, sir." Amid the short bursts of laughter, the smiling president retorted: "The first time I did it to a national audience, though." < insert "wife" riposte here >

Stephen Hess, a Brookings Institution analyst who has studied the presidency and the media, said he was struck by Bush's jocular demeanor "in the face of some pretty tough questioning," especially amid the slide in his job-approval ratings, now down to about 50%. ....

12. Imus, yeah big time.
Just because Imus uttered a anti-Bushism, I won't allow a cheer for him. His regular listeners are negative as hell and most, in my opinion, don't vote. They just like to sit around and bitch. He's more like Bush than like us by a long shot.

14. It's an old joke...
And I'm SURE that Imus has heard it before. Many times, in fact.

Most of us get lines in our faces if we live long enough. In his case, they are not laugh lines but the fossilized remains of grim bitterness. (Think Ma Bush.)

16. Yeah
That compounds the crime. Bad enough Shrub is a testy indulged brat, he also doesn't have the wit to riposte. He's the idiot in every office that sidles up to your desk with:
"Hey, workin' hard? Or..."

*snicker* *chortle* *snort*

"HARDLY WORKIN'??!! Haw! Haw!"

22. anyone ever read imus's book "God's Other Son" ?
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 10:01 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
This book is definitely not for people who are easily offended. Imus's scathing commentary on evangelists is not for the faint of heart. Sexual mores and religous beliefs are all fair game in this outrageous look at "God's Other Son" Billy Sol Hargus and his trials and tribulations. This book will either make you laugh out loud or shake with anger depending on where your beliefs lie.

I chose to laugh.

betcha the christian wingnuts wouldn't

He said this ON AIR, unedited on MSNBC.
