Americans Flock to Get on NRA Blacklist

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Most blacklists are designed to intimidate. But thousands of Americans are clamoring to join one drawn up by the National Rifle Association.

Actor Dustin Hoffman was so dismayed to find his name missing from the NRA's shadowy 19-page list of U.S. companies, celebrities, and news organizations seen as lending support to anti-gun policies that he wrote to the powerful pro-gun lobby group begging to be included.

"As a supporter of comprehensive anti-gun safety measures, I was deeply disappointed when I discovered my name was not on the list," Hoffman wrote in a letter to the NRA that was released on Tuesday.

"I was particularly surprised by the omission given my opposition to the loophole that makes it legal for 18- to 20-year-olds to buy handguns at gun shows," he added.

"What the site ( http://www.NRAblacklist.com ) tries to do is turn it into a badge of honor to get on the blacklist by saying 'Hey Julia Roberts is on the blacklist. Why don't you join it?.' It's been incredibly successful. Since we have launched, 25,000 people have signed on to ask to be put on the blacklist," said Wendy Katz, spokesperson for the group.

"Upon looking at the list I realized just what a service the NRA has performed for those who value their Second Amendment rights. I mean without the NRA to tell you otherwise, you might be under the impression that Olympic figure-skating champion Tara Lipinski and Tampa Bay wide-receiver Keyshawn Johnson were just harmless if talented professional athletes. How wrong you are - they're on the list so they're after your guns. Remember Heisman Trophy winner and pro quarterback Doug Flutie? Well don't trust him with your Glock or you just might find yourself disarmed. "

Seems kinda silly when they can join the military and be required to carry and shoot'm at innocent Iraqis.

I did get an email though from the NRA. Apparently they are starting up another list as well that is Pro civil rights (aka pro 2nd ammendment).

So, I guess there's 2 lists, one for folks who oppose civil rights and one for folks who believe in them.

I won't sign up for either though, cause I don't want the spam.

I'm sorry, but if we, as a society, have decided we can't trust you with a miller lite, you shouldn't be anywhere near a handgun.
