Haven't heard anymore since his office diverted calls and refused to listen to the voice of the people, even the people of his own party.

Just wondering.

1. DeLay will NEVER
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 10:48 AM by La_Serpiente
let it come to the floor because it will be an embarrasment for the party and the president.

However, Democrats are pulling parlimentary tactics to override his authority.

They need more signatures. I am not sure how many they need, but they feel pretty confident that they can make it. There are many Republicans that would want a vote on it.

If it is passed, it will possibly be Bush's first veto. I think Rove wants to go into the next election saying that Bush has never vetoed anything, kind of like a clean slate.

3. Thanks, good response.
I have posted about this several times, and this is the only time I have really had an answer.

I wonder if there is a way we can help? Many of us have called or written already, and I know this is an issue dear to both parties.

I hope you will post if you hear more.

:hi:

5. Actually
MoveOn did a technological assault on Delay one day. It was really funny.

They were sending them faxes and e-mail. They also called him. They did it for a very long time.

However, his secretaries just forwarded MoveOn's calls back to themselves.

2. 200 members of Congress say no
Press relese from Cong. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)

For Immediate Release, 10/24/2003

200 Members of Congress Tell Speaker Hastert: Give Us A Vote on Media Deregulation

The US House of Representatives, against all expectations, has again picked up the fight for media reform and moved to roll back the Federal Communications Commission’s June 2nd ruling on media ownership. This ruling would dramatically relax the media ownership rules and permit ever greater consolidation of the American media system.

A letter authored by Reps. Sanders, Leach, Hinchey, Burton, Markey and Price is circulating in the House. It is addressed to Speaker J. Dennis Hastert and calls for an immediate debate and a vote on this issue. It has gathered a remarkable 200 signatures to date, including several Republicans. It is the largest recorded total of House Members favoring a nullification of the FCC decision.

Congressman Sanders was the first member of Congress to hold town meetings on the issue of corporate control over the media.

More than 2.3 million Americans have contacted the FCC to register their opposition to these rule changes. Groups as diverse as the National Rifle Association, the National Organization for Women, the National Council of Churches, Consumers Union, the Parents Television Council and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights have joined together in a unique and powerful coalition of dissent.

The letter to the Speaker concludes: “It is clear that there are honest disagreements among Members of Congress concerning these FCC rules. It is equally clear that the public deserves a debate and a vote on this important matter. The Senate has addressed this matter and executed its responsibility. In the House of Representatives, we should do no less. We hope you will grant us this opportunity.”

6. Good for them. Thanks.
I know that my GOP congressman, who votes with Bush on every issue, and who is being groomed as another possible DeLay type.....even he wants it brought to a vote.

Just reminded me, I had signed up for those newsletters from Bernie Sanders but must have been unsubscribed. Need to check. I just realized I have not seen any in a long time.
