At least in my state, it seem Repubs are afraid to oppose Holt's BBV bill!

It summarizes the positions of Ohio members of the House of Representatives on HR2239 (Holt's proposed legislation, the Voter Confidence Act). Notice how most of the Democrats are actually co-sponsoring the bill while most of the Republicans are giving waffle answers?
Even Ney, who is the one blocking the bill in committee doesn't come out against it! A staff member claims they "don't know" his position. According to this story http://www.msnbc.com/news/985033.asp, "If Representative Holt’s proposed Voter Confidence Act is passed, verification will be the law of the land by the 2004 election, but prospects are dim, as the committee chairman, Bob Ney of Ohio, is against it." So it's a pretty safe bet for some Repubs such as Deborah Pryce to say they will wait till it is out of committee before taking a position. I guess we can think of it as a good thing that they are at least afraid to take a direct stand against it.

I think Ohio is important because it's where Diebold is based, and it's also an important swing state. But what is going on in other states? I can look myself but I'd like to hear some insider perspectives from DUers who actually live in those states. Wouldn't mind hearing from more Ohioans as well.
