Anybody seen this RW nonsense
I got this from a "friend" today. It turns out to be absolute bunk. I checked on Snopes and found that this has been circulating for years. Why do people perpetuate such crap (especially since it seems to be designed to appeal to RWingers). Notice how the only Senators mentioned are Democrats. I wrote back to the guy that he should check his facts before sending such propaganda. I included the link to the Snopes article. This is what we are up against.

SOCIAL SECURITY:
(This is worth the read. It's short and to the point.)

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a
Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are
getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to
"put away," you may be interested in the following:

2004 Election Issue
This must be an issue in "04." Please! Keep it going. Perhaps we are
asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and
Congress men &women do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they
do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their
rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for
themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it.
After all, it is a great plan.

For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
Whe n they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die,
except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments.

For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives
may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred
Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last
years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for
each.

Their cost for this excellent plan is $00.00. Nada. Zilch. This little
perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the
tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly
from the General Funds-our tax dollars at work!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid)
into-every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our
employer) --we can expect to get an average $1,000 per month after
retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of
$1,000. monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator
Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from
under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security
plan with the rest of us ... then sit back and watch how fast they would
fix it.

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted
and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

1. Did you "reply all" and educate some people?
That's what I always do. I've noticed that I don't receive RW BS anymore, I might add.

2. I do that too
I don't care if it embarrasses the sender. That's what you get when you send out sh**. Next time perhaps they will CHECK THE FACTS. It also might make them wonder what other lies they are being fed; one can only hope.

3. I do the same thing, and I also don't care anymore if it
is embarrassing to the person who sent it, I'm tired of getting bullshit RW fascist propaganda in my emails, and I'm tired of always being nice where these things are concerned. That's been our problem, we've been too nice, letting the wingnuts and freeps and RW crazies bully, intimidate, and roll right over us for years. It's time they were stopeed, and it's time to fight back!

4. Depending on who sent the BS to me, embarrassing the sender is
part of the plan. But I do use the "reply all" option so that any other unsuspecting soul that received the BS knows it's BS.

As for the sender, I don't really give a shit if he (and in one case, she) is embarrassed. Good. Now maybe the other people on his (and that one her) email list knows that whatever the receive from that person is bullshit.

But like I said, I don't get many of those emails anymore. It's part of the price of setting the record straight, and almost a shame. I like setting the record straight.

5. "reply all" and copy the addresses from all the other ones
all the way down (if you're like me, and get emails that have a year's worth of forwarding history, with the text over and over, etc)

I did the same, getting stuff like that from my Dad, who would get it from and share it with his Natl Guard friends

It's been awhile since I got anything

6. no
I just replied to the person who sent it to me; I really hate getting these mass email kind of things anyway. I don't like the idea that some strangers now have my email address (and I have theirs too I guess). Still it is an easy thing to verify the accuracy of these things but no one I know ever does.

7. After I did that, my freeper in-laws stopped accepting my e-mails
I guess I'm too "unpatriotic" for them.
