3. One must consider other posts in the Lounge.
Often, one maggot poster feeds upon another. Perhaps it is past your bedtime, dear KCDem.

Night, night!

5. Why you sneaky little (and I do mean little) Ceratopogonidae!
You are a sneaky no-see-um!

No-see-ums, or Black Valley Gnats (Leptoconops torrens), are small biting flies in the family Ceratopogonidae. These flies are common in parts of the Central Valley of California, particularly in areas with alkaline clay soils. The adults are black and tiny, about 1/16 inch long, and are small enough to pass through window screens.

7. Chiggers are almost invisible and they bite like a sonofagun
Edited on Fri Aug-15-03 11:59 PM by SoCalDem
and burrow under the skin ....eeeek..

I once slept on the beach (don't ask :eyes:) and the chiggers and sand fleas almost devoured me :(

What a Chigger Is
Chiggers are tiny (most can only be seen with a magnifying glass) and red, and they are a type of mite. Mites aren't insects - they are arachnids and part of the same family as spiders, scorpions, and ticks. Chiggers are found all over the place, including in grassy fields, along lakes and streams, and in forests. There are adult chiggers and baby chiggers (called larvae), but only the baby chiggers bother people and animals.
Chiggers have tiny claws that allow them to attach tightly onto people and animals. Once attached, they are able to pierce the skin and inject their saliva, which contains digestive juices that liquify skin cells. The chigger then slurps up the liquified skin cells. To the chigger, this is a tasty meal! Having a chigger do this is very irritating to your skin. After a few days, the chigger will be done feeding and fall off a person's skin, leaving behind a red welt where it had once been.

Got big palmetto bugs?

Better than Tom DeLay, the foot, hopefully heavily shod with a good shoe or boot, will take care of 'em! :D

12. palmetto bugs
LOL! When described to anyone outside the home it's a palmetto bug.

When described to the individual household member whose boot is fixin' to stomp it....it's a, um.....cockroach!

11. Some bugs are wonderful!

I brought an egg case inside one fall, not realizing what it was. I set it on a plant stand with some cacti under a grow light. A few weeks later, my basement was filled with baby mantids! They looked like little aliens. Toooo coooool!
