gay and proud
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 12:47 AM by bocadem
DU has turned me into the activist type... due to the perceived homophobia on this board, I've decided to change my avatar to the rainbow flag. I'm not normally into that, but hey - I like boys.

There you have it.

2. Okay, I haven't seen this "perceived homophobia" everybody
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 12:53 AM by Ohio Dem
is talking about. Either I haven't been paying attention, or the timing was crazy wrong and I missed it (or maybe I'm just dumb). Can you PM me a thread in which it occurs?

Good for you for sticking up for yourself, concerning your avatar.

On edit: spelling

6. "Perceived homophobia" on these boards?
You ought to hit the "Alert" link on any such posts and let the moderators know. Gay bashing is a violation of DU rules.

Remember, we're everywhere. And without us, who would ever eat quiche? ;-)

8. so how is "gay and proud" different from "proud to be an American?"
I don't get either one of those things. Pride is based on accomplishment. Is it an accomplishment to be gay? Or American? If you were born gay, then it's nothing to be "proud" of. It's like me saying I'm proud to be blue-eyed. Or proud to be tall. Or proud to be heterosexual.

12. Pride
The pride comes from taking the anti-gay abuse - and being proud of your ability to take it.

21. how is "gay and proud" different from "proud to be an American"?
Dunno, but I can't wait to hear the Lee Greenwood song

Then maybe Toby Keith will "put a boot (or something else) in his ass...." and instead of the "red white and blue", they can wrap themselves in......

And, for the record...

9. I'm gay too
I'm 43, and not some limp wristed easy target. In my genuine life, I have fought to earn respect, and this is in Texas - the pit of Gods hell for me. I refuse to read and listen to others threads that are full of crap. I can't do it anymore. I'm 43, I weigh 187 pounds, and those pounds are all strength - I bike 15 miles per day to work and back, I lift weights. I am in better shape than 90% of the bastards in this area that drive bigass pickup trucks (don't live on a ranch) and go to the bar every friday night. I am through listening to their redneck bullshit.

I've asked on several occassions and it still hasn't been done.

"Perceived homophobia" is the operative term in the original post. Simply because it is perceived does not make it so.

I think there is a little flirty thing between certain men on this board, but I don't think anyone but the freepers are homophobes. Please Alert the mods, though.
