We've got POWER in Detroit!!!!! Got it this morning.
Just as my husband and I were wondering how much to siphon out of the car to run the generator. People were wacky here. Neighbor took off like it was end times...that's how we got a generator, she gave us hers. We formed a sort of commune with the new neighbors next door. They are AWESOME. So much better than the judgemental, Christian, Neo-cons of 2 months ago. We hooked up two neighbors to the generator as well, and he went on a reconnaissance mission up north for more gas yesterday.

We are still doing the boil water thing, because one of the pumps is out. I haven't turned on the A/C because they told us not to, but some a$$hole down the street is running his sprinkler system. America, ain't it grand?

It's wonderful to be back. Hope I can stay.

Laura

2. East side...St. Clair shores...Came on early this a.m.
The crappy thing was, is two blocks North they had power, two blocks South, they had power. We got excited yesterday thinking it was a matter of time, but no banana. I know there are still a few areas North of 15 Mile here without, but for the most part everybody's up.

My Brother in law in Macomb Twp got power yesterday, as did my Mother in law and parents in Clinton Twp.

5. Early this morning. We were beginning to think they had forgotten about
us.:-( Everyone around us had power. Except for maybe a four block area. It is a disgrace, and to watch Bush's asinine, don't look directly at the camera speech from yesterday, when I turned on the T.V. made me even madder. It is good to be done with it.

6. Hahahaha, that's the first thing I did. We're still on boil water alert
but I figured I'd just keep my mouth shut for once.;-) The first day was actually kind of fun, because the house was still quite cool. Yesterday became miserable fairly quickly because it was so humid. You don't realize how friggin much you take for granted...like coffee.

9. I know that Romulus(right next to Taylor) has its power so I would deduce
Edited on Sat Aug-16-03 11:52 AM by MrsGrumpy
that Taylor does too. But, there are still a few small areas here and there without power. I think they said 90% has been restored. I hope for their sake it is...because it is really damn hot and humid today.

10. All "Cascade" damage is repaired
Some areas are without power because of storm damage and other localized problems, but generally, Michigan is lit up.

Personally, I think Granholm twisted some arms to get DTE moving. It was starting to get a little curious as to why it would take longer to turn on Detroit than it did NYC.

13. You could have followed the sweat puddles and the smell of burning beef
because I waited too long to cook and I couldn't see properly to fry the hamburgers so they came out a little well done...but we ate them anyway.

Thanks! It's good to be back!
