So what's everyone's take on Evanescence?

I've heard the name around, but I finally saw one of their videos. Pretty interesting, I must say...however, that's just from one song. Anyone out there that can give me a review on the whole cd?

For their songs "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal".

. . . because I don't like pop music. I only picked it up due to a family connection I have to one of the band members.

However . . . if you like "Going Under" (the new video) and "Bring Me To Life," you'll probably like the album. Most of the album is in that same style: catchy vocal hooks on top of flavorless nu-metal. Fortunately, the rapping is limited to that one song.

I liked many of the songs at first, but I quickly grew bored with the simplicity of the music and lyrics. The two songwriters are only in their early 20s, so I hope they'll continue to grow and make good on the promise they show.

Oddly enough, the drummer is formerly of a Christian-themed death metal band (Living Sacrifice). The lead guitarist/songwriter is into death metal, horror movies, and that whole scene. Sadly, there is no connection to extreme metal in their actual music. :(

soundwise, more like Slayer (who are also not death metal), but Christian metal (yes even death metal) does exist. I don't like metal but I do like metalcore (a combo of metal and hardcore) but most Christian metalcore bands suck as they're just rip offs of more popular secular bands. One exception being Spitfire, even though they quit being Christian on their last EP.

Go listen to Zao and see how heavy it is. That's a Christian band. Some of their earlier stuff is OK but the latest stuff is HORRIBLE.

I think they need a new producer...the music is great but the chick sings WAY too whiny.

I bought it thinking 'please don't suck' as I had only heard one song. I am pleased to say I can listen thru the whole cd very happily.

I would advise you to get it.

What happened? In my day, depressed teenagers listenend to The Cure, Joy Division, etc. Now my (much) younger siblings listen to shit like this.
