Yeah, anyone who's seen my stupid word-play tendencies on exhibit here in the Lounge must know I'm beyond hopelessly verbal-section geeky.

16. Will be in Tucson
around the holidays... :P

Actually, I made the trip over to Phoenix (Paradise Valley) from my grandparents' place in Tucson one Christmas break to visit a friend - nice little drive, and scenic, for someone who sees only trees all the time at home.

20. We tied on verbal!
I managed a 440 math score. But it got me into college, and I even got a mensa card to put in my wallet for strictly vanity purposes.

Yay verbal section geeks!

I am also a Mensa member. I like the word games in the newsletter. :)

I would have done slightly better on the math, but I was drunk when I took the SAT's (true story.)

27. Yes, there is..
not like on the SAT's though. An IQ test is supposed to measure your ABILITY to learn, so they have sections like "spatial relations" and "mechanical aptitude". It measures math more indirectly. It's been a while since I took the test, but I think there are some straight math questions on there too--not too sure. They can't be too difficult, at any rate, because I never would have passed.

28. Oh, I'm a hardcore geek, not to be trifled with...
There are some geek realms I don't venture into though--stuff like chaos theory, quantum physics, and Star Trek. :) Not because I WOULDN'T, just because it doesn't interest me. (Although I've read several Robert Persig novels, if that redeems me at all.) :)

31. I bet you'd really dig
James Gleick's "Chaos." It really is more philosophy than math/physics, at least in my read. But then I guess philosophy ain't everyone's cup o' geek tea, either.

33. Hmm, if it's readable, perhaps I'll check it out...
My problem with that sort of field (and with math, as well) is that I'm fixated on details--which is what makes me good at my job and good with words and with editing. It's hard for me to grasp the larger picture when it's all theoretical--I tend to get bogged down and then I'm lost.

35. That's the brilliant thing about chaos
you fixate on a detail, and get a happy thrill when the "aha!" moment arrives and you realize that your chosen detail is much larger and more encompassing of other seemingly unrelated phenomena than you'd have imagined. If that even begins to make any sense.

36. Mm hmm!
I think I know what you mean--I have had that "aha!" moment with math, actually, a couple of times in my life. I'll check out the book and get back to you. :)

3. I got a tough one
How is it that this country came to the point where an election between an imbecilic narcissist who never accomplished anything by himself his entire life, and a proven statesman who would be merely taken over the reigns and continuing the nice ride we were on even end up close enough to steal?

yesterday I had barbecue with a side of fried okra and some hush puppies, and it was so tasty and so filling, that's all I had. Today I've had some warmed pita bread with baba ghannouj, and I'm not sure what dinner will be. Oh, and my morning coffee doesn't count, does it?

Actually a lot less boring than "Well, for breakfast I had one egg and a piece of dry whole-wheat toast, then for lunch I had cottage cheese and a salad with diet dressing, then I had an apple for a snack..."-- AARGHH!
