What's happening to Tiger?
His performance in the Masters is awful. I feel sorry for him. All of those people follow him around and the TV coverage always shows him even though he's so far from the top of the heap.

Is he on drugs? Is he in a slump? I'm not a golf fan by any means so I'm not sure what to make of this. Will he ever win again?

To me, it seems like he peaked back around 2000 or so and has been losing momentum both in his golf game and with the media ever since.

1. Star Syndrome
I do follow golf and I think he's too much of a celebrity with too many other distractions.

When he was younger he was HUNGRIER!

5. Its the PGA this week, not the Masters
Tiger is number 2 on the money list this season, has 4 tournament wins and a bunch of top 20 finishes. 99% of the golfers on the pro tour would love to have this "poor" of a season.

Certainly Tiger has not been playing to the invincible form that we have come to expect of him. As a spectator, it is impossible to know what is going on with his internal motivations. Possibly there are problems, but it is just as likely that there is nothing wrong. Golf is not like most sports. Performance varies widely from day to day, and it is difficult to just turn it on at will. There is also alot of random chance in the game, and when the breaks are going against you, it seems to just pile on.

One point of note however, is that Tiger has not won a major tournment since he fired Butch Harmon, his coach. Tiger feels like he knows enough about his swing that there is nothing more to gain from outside instruction. Perhaps this is not such a good move.

6. I was gonna say, he won 4 tournies this year, give him a break!
Just because he's not superhuman, doesn't mean he isn't still the best golfer currently playing the game.

7. I didn't realize that
I didn't know he fired his coach. That might be a reason for his decline.

But you're right. He's still a great golfer and still very young so who knows how many more tournament wins he could pile on before then.

8. Eldrick.............
has been having a good year, just no major wins. It's tough to keep jumping over a bar that he himself set so high. I think he's beginning to doubt himself a little. His world is much more complicated than it was even two years ago. Too many things on one's mind detracts from the matter at hand. A sports psychologist would probably help.

9. Fired his coach, and didn't he change clubs this year, too?
BTW, firing the coach is a baaaaaad idea, unless he moved to a new one. As a singer, you NEVER get so good that you give up lessons and coachings -- there is always SOMETHING that can be improved about your performance. Even the top opera stars (Domingo, Pavarotti, Debra Voight, etc) have said that they still go for "coachings" to have that outside person listen to them and make corrections.

The day you think you know it all is the day you stop growing as an artist, and (apparently) as a golf player.

I hope Tiger figures out what the problem is so he can go back to kickin ass and takin names, baby! :7

11. screw tiger
Imho - he wasted his karma. I think his game, his ability, gift, and celebrity put him in a position to do a lot of good for civil rights in this country - and pretty painlessly, too.

He didin't have to march or suffer - all he had to do is say the right things when the questions were asked, but he didn't. He's all about "Tiger", first person.

12. Not a Tiger fan but....
I'm not a huge fan of Tiger, but we have to remember that he had knee surgery at the beginning of the season. I'm sure it's fine for day to day activity, but he probably isn't where he was a couple years ago. He's such a perfectionist any change in his health would throw off his game a little.

Also, he changed his equiptment. I'm pretty sure that he played with Nike drivers until at least the British Open which are substandard in comparison to the drivers the other golfers use.

The ugly speculations are that he used steroids in the off season and is too strong to properly control his swing, his model girlfriend takes up too much time, and he's generally become lazy. I don't really believe any of these and I'm sure he has lots of wins left in his career.
