Counting Crows opened for who????
Edited on Sun Aug-17-03 06:00 PM by plurality
a bit of a rant...

first let me say that i do not like counting crows but i went because i was able to buy tickets from a friend and they are jeremy's favourite band. i was the good girlfriend.

concert started at 7. i got out of work at 5:30 rushed home as fast as the metro and my feet could carry me. we were out of the apartment by 6:20. we had rented a zipcar (which are pretty neat and a great concept by the way) and were off. of course we had to take the beltway and 66 which on a friday is going to suck. we had pretty much determined that we were going to miss the opening act which was ok cause we didnt know who the fuck he was. but not having a car we didnt realise how really crappy beltway traffic is, especially because 66 goes down to two lanes from 4. so we arrived at the nissan pavilion at about 8:45 which was ok cause concerts usually start late and the main act still comes on at about 9. and i saw while i was looking for directions that there were two opening acts so that would buy us a bit more time. but when we got out of the car we heard CC playing. maybe they started at 8.30. we finally get through the fields of cars, through the pat-down line, up the big bloody hill that creates the lawn and sat down.

we hadnt eaten anything so i offered to go get beer and food. i wait in a big bloody line for beer and as im walking up the stairs to get to where jeremy is sitting i hear.... "we gotta go." WHAT!!!! apparently THEY were the opening acted and had missed all but about 6 songs. i felt so bad for jeremy, i know he was excited and we had missed them. and we were both getting a bit upset by the traffic but couldnt smoke in the zipcar.

what sucked was that the concert was billed as "Counting Crows with John Mayer." First name on the Concert billing means last on the set list.

we went home early after a couple of songs of, as jeremy called it, "un-offensive crap rock." (which i could say for counting crows but wasnt because i had promised not to say a negative word about them at the concert.)

but on a happier note. trojan was handing out free condoms and i got nine of them. woot!! and as we were leaving, there were some folk who had missed CC completely and were saying "who the fuck is this guy? he has no talent. i cant believe CC were the opening act." so we got to hear more than them, at least.

oh and another rant. i think i saw maybe one dyke. it was the biggest congregation of abercrombie/american eagle, het, frat, sorority, sun-in fake blond folk i have ever seen in my life! :puke: give me a soft butch punk girl anyday.

i posted this on another forum i visit and heres the link. a lot a folk posted some funny responses.

2. It's not unusual these days for acts to 'rotate' who opens
But it REALLY sucks when you want to see someone, figure you have the time and then miss them!!!

John Mayer is getting alot of press (he's BIG here in Indy/Bloomington) but NO WAY the Crows should be opening for HIM!!!

5. what is interesting...
is when ads first came out in the spring about the show, it was a full spread ad with only the counting crows. when jeremy saw that wanted to get tickets.

apparently they're touring together but when one band is advertised with the top billing and ends up being the opening act thats another thing all together.

this is actually very similiar to when tori amos and alanis morrisette toured "together." im sure within the respected communities, one performer was the "lead" act but they were touring together. and im sure there were folks who liked them both, or just came for one (me being one of those, it was my first, and so far only, tori concert). and tori "opened" which if you just go by years on the scene, she has far more seniority and far more devoted and rabid fan base.

4. For worse or worse, John Mayer is more popular than CC...
right now in America. His record is multi-platinum. His videos are in heavy rotation.

American audiences just CANNOT GET ENOUGH of bland white guy pop<---see Dave Matthews.

7. They both suck
Just add DMB and Matchbox 20 to the bill, and you've got the concert I'll be forced to sit through in hell for all eternity.

9. That happened to me too!
I went to the Goo Goo Dolls with Bon Jovi, thinking the goo goo dolls were the Main Act. Boy was I stupid when I found out a week or two before the concert that Bon Jovi was the main act!!

Yuck, John Mayer. I was invited by a friend to that performance tommorrow at SPAC and declined! :D

all the good ones are taken...or head to israel for the year...or doesnt remember who i am after i doing something really unlike myself and make the first move...or their drunken male friend tries swallowing my face...or doesnt want to talk to me any more because "your not bi or something?"...or (and this one happened last night) their EX-girlfriend shows up and she throws her clothes back on, ignores me for the rest of the night, spending it in the pool mugging down on her ex.

edit: can i atleast see a picture?? atleast a photo has never shot me down.

14. You would have gotten extra points from your DUnick
I have not had meat, fish, or chicken in years, I would have put in a good word for you. My scanner is broke (for real). But a few weeks ago she showed me a rather enticing photo of herself looking very faux innocent in a silk pink negligee with a bit of breast exposed (we are very close, and I don't mean incestuously). Her flaw is a love of good old drama, passion overflows from our genetic tree.

12. Sorry, I LIKE John Mayer
but maybe that is because I am old. I like his guitar playing and I like his songs. Yes, they are popish but not nearly as bad as most of the shit I hear that counts for music these days. As for DMB, I have loved them since I first heard them. You may not like their music but you certainly can't say they are not incredible musicians. Just thought I would chime in. I am almost 50, maybe that is part of the reason.

15. I've seen them twice
and really loved both concerts. Very talented musicians. I saw John Mayer at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival last May and really did enjoy it. Saw Ben Harper too, the next day. Also good, in fact outstanding.
