For pet lovers

I just got back from Columbus Ohio helping my daughter take care of her family while she was nursing her Rottweiller back from deaths door. He had a Pro Heart 6 shot last Tues. and on Wed they told her he would probably die, well doing some internet searching we were able to predict what was coming next and get a heads up and he has survived. He will need 2xweekly blood test for the next 3mos to insure that the liver and hearet damage is minimal. If you are considering this heartworm prevention injection that last for 6 mos please do some investingating first for the sake of your pets.

Seems there are alot more adverse reactions to this shot but Fort Dodge who makes the products pay for the diagnostic tests and the AUTOPSIES and is skewing the reports. There is alot of information at i-dog beware of proheart6. Just want anyone who has a beloved pet to be aware. He is getting out of the hospital on Monday. 1 week and about $5,000.00 worth of grief, but at least he's coming home.

My dogs take the chewy heartworm pills once a month. I will definitely steer clear of that injection!

but also the last time she had a yearly shot, the site swelled up. i thought it was a huge tumour until i remembered she had the shot. thankfully it went away away in a few days.

Still not out of the woods yet. Docs still don't know what's wrong or how to treat it. Taking chemotherapy to keep his white count down.

But we have flea's I've had a Rottweiller and a Rat terrrier develope Cancerious growth's where I applied systemic flea medicine, both died from them. I quite doing that with my other animal's except for 1 or 2 months in the summer (never in a roll}. They now die form old age. I breed dogs and keep 5 or 6 .

We have 2 Siberian huskies and about 9 cats..We only get the rabies shots for the dogs otherwise we cannot renew dog licence.
The cats we never give them any shots and we have only had one sick cat (she was 12 yrs old)..I all my life would not take any shots(except for alcohol)have never been sick a day..Maybe this is a tin foil alert but I refuse to give shots to any animal no matter what all the posters say in the vets office....

some years back when three of my beloved cats died after receiving Feline Luke shots. I was, totally, devastated and felt responsible for getting them the shots in the first place. The other two did not die immediately after but both were in poor health until they did. NEVER again will I give my animals shots that are not required to license them and have tried to avoid that as well. Thank you for the original post on this topic. So many people are unaware of the dangers of these vaccinations on their pets. Wish to god someone had told me the truth.

once had a serious reaction to an ivermectin (sp?) injection that I didn't even authorize. He suffered brain damage and was never the same afterwards.

I took, in but only because I was afraid that the kittens could have something that the insiders had no immunity to..

But, I agree.. the very act of going to the vet usually makes our cats sick.. They can be fine (they never go out) and I will take them to the vet and after treatment they are WORSE..:(

They shots that they got last year will probably be their last, since they are indoor cats and only come into contact with each other :(

My dog had the shot a year ago and I was just about to reschedule her for another. I'll buy the chewy nuggets instead. Thank God your daughter's dog is OK.
