We are OFFICIALLY landowners in Canada.
1.5 acres (with a bid in on another 3) of Huron County Ontario is now in the name of Mr. and Ms Tyler Durden (under our real names, of course.)

Now comes the fun part: finishing the current house's reno and starting up the cutting list for the new one. I feel happy just patronizing the Canadian Lumber Industry which we are Tarriffing the HELL out of with an unfair duty.

There's more acreage across the street, kiddies.

1. Good for you! I can imagine the joy you feel! My son is an
official land owner in Hawaii where I plan to go in 3 years when I get my Social Security. I know Hawaii is still the USA but it's far enough that it feels foreign and besides I think there will be a Dem in the WH by then! :-)

I do have a fondness for Canada it's just after living in upper New York for 5 years and by the time I leave it will be 8 years of Winter..I've had it with the winters!

2. Thanks!
Lake effect snow kind of sucks, but the lake moderates the temperature on the East Coast of Lake Huron. NICE Summers, not disasterously cold in the winter. Glad I bought and rehab'd my snow thrower tho.

I just had to say that once. Thank GAWD for my mostly sane S.O.!

5. We are WAY over spec'ing the Septic System, and making room for tents.
We expect that a few folks may want to camp out on their way to refugee status. It has become my opinion that nothing can stop the psychotic Bush Monster. Not that we have stopped trying, just that we figure if you're on an airplane running out of fuel, take a sec to put on your 'chute.

6. HAH, let's talk about a couple options I got in MEXICO... where I can
purchase either a beachfront lot and build my own luxurious casa, for under $200K, including construction...

Or a lovely colonial in one of the oldest cities in Mexico, lovely courtyard, 2 stories, 15 foot ceilings, 200 year old dwelling... for about $120k, and be 1/2 hour from the beach, enjoy lush, tropical surroundings, fantastic food, a growing economy and low cost of living... Seriously, once either casa is bought or completed, living expenses, with a daily housekeeper, gardener, fresh water, are under $600 a month. No snow, no roads to plow, nationalized, quality health care.. kind, considerate people, exquisite fresh foods...

Wait, on second thought, don't tell anyone.

7. Not fond of the climate down there: to hot/humid...
...for my Northern Euro DNA. I'm less than 1/4 mile from the Lake Huron Shoreline, 1 Mile from the family summer cottage,

The land cost me LESS than $8K US, and the next 3 acres will be even less. With the low cost of CDN timber, I'll be building new for less than $25K US for the shell, and less than $15K for the power/water/greenhouse systems. Paid in full: about 3 years tops.

Not to brag, of course.......

We're wind/solar/diesel generator shopping right now, and the contractor is planning the dig for moving the muni drain and digging the basement.

We're so excited we could just SHIT!
