Doritos Used To Coax Bighorn Sheep

SANTA FE, N.M. (Reuters) - If you want to get sheep to move off the mountain, use crackers and Doritos.

After butting heads with a flock of bighorn sheep, New Mexico officials found a gentle way to move them down a mountain with gifts of the snack foods.

New Mexico Game and Fish Department officials said they were frustrated by efforts earlier this week to relocate about 30 to 40 bighorn sheep from 12,300-foot Mt. Wheeler.

The first day of the operation ended with no Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in traps and several forest officials staring up mountain at a herd that they could not entice to move.

Equipped with eight wheat crackers and a knack for calling sheep, game department intern Fernando Clemente managed to entice 30 sheep about half a mile down from the mountaintop.
