Am I nuts or do other people behave like this?
I am leaving in the morning to spend some time with my sisters , and to go to a family reunion next week end

so far I have

vacumned the matress
and the sofa

Cleaned fan blades

dusted where no human would ever go

When am HERE none of this much bothers me

But when I am going to LEAVE, I turn into Suzy Home maker!!

4. I do this as well. And I wash every piece of soiled clothing in the house.
I figure it's about death. If I die while I am away, I wouldn't want people walking into my house thinking" My God this lady was a pig".
Otherwise I am okay with Mt. Laundruvius piling up on the floor.

Of course you are not crazy, because then I would be too, and I'm not...am I?????

6. My wife is the same way
She cleans like a maniac right before every vacation.

Why?

"I hate to come home to a dirty house."

But living in one is okay!

:wtf:

7. I have always done that
I love to come home to a spotless home. But I am obsessed with cleaning most days. Just cleaning the toilets and mopping the floors for the third time in 5 days. I vacuuming everyday and just purchased one of those "steam bullet" cleaners so I can get into the crevices around the sink.

Hey Jitterbug, we still have not found out what is wrong with my Father, but he is a bit better and getting around. After a year of trying I finally got his insurance company and Medicare to pay off their portion of his bills.

Have a great time.

8. I don't know what to tell you,
but I know exactly how you feel. I'm too lazy to do all that when I'm getting ready to leave, but I feel like I should. It must have something to do with how you'll feel while you're away, anticipating a dirty house to come home to = not pleasant. It's like another scenario, the one where you've had a dirty floor for weeks. Then you get sick, sprain your ankle, or whatever, and that dirty floor starts driving you nuts because you can't clean it.

because their houses aren't clean. As if value is given for cleanliness... Tsk tsk, toys on the floor -1000, but wow look at that sink sparkle...+2000.

so that cleaning is facilitated instead of hindered!

Don't want her precious help spent on clearing up clutter....:-)

13. I do this too
I have chalked it up to:

"I am ok living in a semi-cluttered house, but when I come home, I would rather not look at my semi-cluttered house, I want it to be emaculate."

14. Sometimes If You Prepare for One Thing
you become more active in general and start doing things that are unrelated. Something like speeding up and not being able to slow down immediately.

At least, I get like that. I remember my ex-wife going on a business trip, and cleaing the whole house on arriving back from the airport. Even to the point of polishing the toaster, which was a real abberation.

17. Nah, your not crazy. Just a little obsessed.
My mom is like that all the time. If there are a few dirty dishes in the sink she's like, "My God, the house is a wreck!" When I was a kid and I brought my friends over they were always impressed by how clean the house was.

19. It's the norm for me because
it makes coming home from a vacation/visit much less of a bummer.
I freeze a homemade dinner for when we get home too.

20. If you're crazy, then I am crazy, too.
We go on vacation in September and I spent last weekend cleaning like a fiend. Inside kitchen cabinets, etc. Have a lot more work to do, since I have let the house get pretty messy and hubby does not clean up after himself.

I know why I do it -- when I come home from a lovely vacation, I do not want it ruined by walking into a dirty, cluttered house. (Clutter bothers me more than dust, BTW) I want to walk into my place and cocoon, not have my teeth on edge because I have walked into the city dump.

Unlike you, mess bothers me the rest of the year, too, but I work more than full time, take classes, etc., and get too tired/lazy/resentful to clean regularly so I don't ever have to look at the mess. Sigh.

21. I do it too, and here is why...
When I leave on vacation or any kind of travel, the last thing I want to see after flying or driving for hours, or sometimes days, is a messy house when I open the door.

When I get home, the only "chore" I want to do is the laundry--clothes I wore while gone. I want to relax for a day before going back to "real life."

So, that's my story.

22. I behave like this too, JBP.....
I get inspired when I go away, so I use the energy to do cleaning jobs I avoid in daily life....

I also love coming home to a clean house, and nothing ruins a vacation for me more than returning to clutter and dirt!

:hi:
