What was the last record you bought?
Just curious ...

The last one I spent my ¤'s on was the new Arto Lindsay CD - Salt. And a damned fine one this is IMHO.

The CD presents his Brazilian roots once more with lots of polyrhythm, Portuguese lyrics mixed with English verses, etc. And it's being released on Ani DiFranco's label Righteous Babe Records. Which for me is almost a reason itself to buy the CD - it's awesome that Ani was successful withstanding the recording industry and doing her thing against all odds. Her success definitely is inspiring to me ...

Anyways, I think this is a really great summer record ... :toast:

13. I'm planning to get this one, too
But it's a bit hard to get it here in Germany.
OK, of course I could mail-order it, but I like going to the records store and buying my CDs there with people around me.

There was a lot of praise for it on the Dar Williams mailing list.

21. Red House Records = great label

I own a couple of CD's released on RHR, among them "Ten Year Night" and "Every Single Day" by Lucy. I love TYN.

Do you know the band "Cry Cry Cry" alias Lucy, Dar Williams and Richard Shindell? I bought their CD a couple of years ago and think that it's really great. Especially "Cold Missouri Waters", "The Kid" and "Northern Cross". The songs on it are really good.

3. Classic Meets Cuba
Nice pice of work by the Klazz brothers.

Classic standards with Latin jazz, salsa beats. Way way cool. Selections include:

Mambozart (Mozart Sym. 40)
Carmen Cubana (Carmen Suite)
many more including works by Bach, Brahams, Beethoven, and Haydn.

15. They are a talented bunch

In every phase of their career.

I own this Buffalo Springfield boxset, Stephen Stills' "Manassas", have a lot of Neil Young-CD's and this David Crosby's comeback-CD from the mid-90's (the one with 'Hero' on it).

25. What's amazing to me....
as I said in another thread, is how relevant the 60s-70s CSNY songs are to today.... then Viet Nam, now Iraq. Like Joni Mitchell said, it's a circle game.

26. Yes, like Jackson Browne

In the run-up to the Iraq war I listened to songs like "Lives In The Balance" or "The Word Justice" and thought that they were still quite relevant.

I'm also convinced that there are many great new bands and musicians who are very aware 'bout the problems of our world today and who write great and lasting songs, like for example Ani DiFranco and Anti-Flag.

The gal has staying power it seems.

Before that was John Vanderslice "Cellar Door." Ass kicking indie rock. Highly recommend both CD's.

As far as records, I guess it was "Bop Till You Drop." Ry Cooder. that was the first digital rock album. Before then digital was the thang in the classical world. Great album, well worth finding a re release.

16. It was either a Monkees greatest hits album or
Springsteen's four album live set that came out in the 1980s. I know I've not bought an album since 1989.

Now with iTunes I don't need to buy CDs if I so choose.

37. Both "Shoulda Been Home" and "Take Your Shoes Off"
are more soul that straight-ahead blues. I think Robert is just stretching out. He is a great singer, songwriter, and guitarist. I look forward to his next work.

22. Yeah, this one is great, too

Weird as this record is, it works from start to finish.
Sometimes I think that if this world would be a just place, "On Parade" would be released as a single and would become a huge hit.

Other highlights on this record are "The Valleys" and "This Deed", obviously ;)
