Why can't some people just answer the question that's asked?
Edited on Sat May-01-04 05:43 PM by Cuban_Liberal
It's a pet peeve of mine that when someone posts a poll with choices A, B and C, someone INEVITABLY insists on responding 'Q'! :wtf:, people? Either choose one of the options, or don't post into the thread with an option that isn't listed! Or, how about posting your OWN fucking poll? :eyes:

11. What if the options listed ARE the only options?
Some things in life ARE A, B and C-type situations. Why should the posters inability to accept reality be an excuse to post an irrelevancy?

21. Maybe there is no reality...
Edited on Sat May-01-04 06:03 PM by m-jean03
These posters are merely trying to assert their will in a universe that is out of their control, and a reality where everything is relative. The realization of the former makes them feel powerless -- whereas the realization of the latter is an antidote to that disconcerting awareness, providing the individual with a sense that he is all powerful in constructing whatever kind of reality he wants. The posters you speak of are perhaps rebels without a cause, in a sense rebelling just for the sense of power and purpose it gives them. :silly: :D :D :D

26. I call 'em thread jackers, but OK.
You know what I mean? They're the folks who can't stand to let someone start a thread that is not worded the way THEY would have worded it, or about a subject THEY would ahve chosen, so they assert their 'alpha/dominant' status by jacking the thread...

39. It's "loverly" (off-topic rant/thread hi-jack)
You've got to get the pronounciation right.

I performed this piece a few weeks ago as part of a celebration (sorry can't get into the details without blowing my cover).

We even had a British bloke teach us the pronounciation.

But the one thing that really stood out for me was something completely different that happened.

I lost my jacket with my bow-tie.

It was pretty chaotic trying to fit 150 people into a dressing room designed for 20 and in all the confusion, I put my jacket on the back of a chair and either forgot it there, or somebody else picked it up. Regardless, it went missing.

I am not a rich man. I cannot afford a new suit right now and I have to go to an awards banquet next week.

I phoned a day later and nobody had seen it. I emailed last week and never got a response.

However, I went down in person and it turned out it hadn't been put in the logbook so nobody knew it was there, but as soon as I described it, they knew where it was and brought it right out, and my bowtie (you try finding an inexpensive bowtie) was in the pocket where it was supposed to be.

It bolsters my faith in humanity.

38. Robb is a dingbat (rant)
I'm sorry.

I truly and deeply apologize.

Sometimes I can't help myself.

I've been seen a psychologist and a psychiatrist about my impulsive nature but they've both pretty much written me off as a hopeless case. There's been loose talk of hospitalization. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

I've been on several medications but one made me sleepy and the other was giving me panic attacks. Several caused my teeth to rot and I now face ferocious dental bills to get it all fixed or am damned to life of dentures. It's wrecked my music career as I can no longer play wind instruments because I require front teeth in order to properly form the embouchure.

I dunno, I suspect it goes back to childhood. I certainly remember being in class when the teacher was conducting classes where the class was expected to chant "the sky is blue" and I would point out that it was raining and the sky appeared grey - definintely not on the list of options.

I was certainly labelled a "rebel" (and other less flattering things) when I disagreed with the status quo. Strangely, in later years, this exact same behaviour was praised as "divergent thinking" or "thinking outside the box".

Nevertheless, I will try and mend my ways and fit in and follow the rules and chant the party line.

.

.

.

Really.

.

.

.

Absolutely.

.

.

You can stop laughing now.
