Is there ANYTHING that's good that has "Republican" in the title?!!
Let's see:

"Irish Republican Army". Hmmm, they're bad and are probably the reason why Tonya Blair snuggled up to Bushwhacker*...

"People's Republic of China". Hmmm, they're bad too.

"The United States' Republican Party". No question there, these folks are evil incarnate.

Well? What's good that happens to be republican?

NOTHING!

6. PRoCH (Chapel Hill, same basic idea)
Several years ago our, um, "noteworthy" Senator Mr. Helms suggested that a fence be put up around Chapel Hill, and that the rest of the state be charged admission to come in and gawk at us.

Score one for Chapel Hill!

4. How about "Battle Hymm of the Republic?"
Especially the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version. The first time I heard that, the hair on the back of my neck stood at attention.

5. The IRA...
may have some negative associations(particularly in recent decades),but to 1916-1922 you would find a very different institution. I still don't consider the term "Irish Republican" to be nearly as negative as "Orangeman"

And you're right about the IRA. I grew up learning they were the heroes of freedom.

11. Do favor the Republican idea of a smaller government.
Not the social programs, but the give to the rich programs. Plus lets make it smaller by throwing some of the bums out.

12. And I am sick of this "seedy-ass, brown republican schwag" ...
... that seems to all that's around lately!

Might as well call it what it is.
The marijuana offensive in the Bush/Ashcroft WoD is nothing but an underhanded way to outsource weed production to Mexico.

15. Uh, the Waterbury, Conn. Republican-American newspaper?
Nope, just another small-market fishwrap. Nothing interesting in there anymore, not since mayor Phil Giordano (R) went to prison for raping a very young girl believed to be his own daughter by a prostitute with whom he was... well, you know.

16. The Spanish Civil War's Republican faction
In fact the US could use a dose of that kind of republicanism right
now.
Like the US founders they wanted liberty or death. They didn't get
liberty, but they died fighting!

Other than that there is Thomas Pynchon's PRRR:
People's Republic of Rock and Roll
from "Vineland".
